A RESOLUTION OF THE BREMERTON CITY COUNCIL
ESTABLISHING ITS LONG TERM SUPPORT OF THE PERFORMING
ARTS, EDUCATION PURSUITS AND OTHER ENTERTAINMENT
EFFORTS OF THE ADMIRAL THEATER FOUNDATION.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Bremerton is committed to
enhancing the livability of the community it now serves;
and
WHEREAS, the arts, entertainment and education are a critical
ingredient to a well-rounded, livable community; and
WHEREAS, the City Council demonstrated its support of these
activities by purchasing the Admiral Theater for
development by a private foundation, now known as the
Admiral Theater Foundation, in support of the arts,
entertainment and education; and
WHEREAS, this financial support, coupled with the relinquishment of
all commercial spaces in the theater complex for use by
the community to defray the costs of operating an arts,
education and entertainment complex at a time where the
financial resources of the City were extremely
constrained end depressed; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has awarded a contract for the operation
and maintenance of the theater to the Admiral Theater
Foundation for the longest period of time allowed by its
City Charter and the Laws of the State of Washington.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Bremerton will provide long term, pro-active support to the
development of an arts, entertainment, and education facility in
the Admiral Theater and to the Admiral Theater Foundation; and
That it intends for this long term relationship to continue
consistent with the viability and success of the Admiral Theater
Foundation; and
That an agreement for a period of ten (10) years be immediately
consummated with the Admiral theater Foundation and that actions to
obtain citizen approval for a longer term contract be initiated in
order to facilitate funding programs and prudent business practices
as they relate to development of the Admiral theater facility; and
That it encourages all citizens and organizations in the City of
Bremerton and its surrounding metropolitan area to support the
development of the arts, entertainment and educational complex in
the Admiral Theater and to lend all manner of assistance to the
Admiral Theater Foundation.
