A RESOLUTION OF THE BREMERTON CITY COUNCIL
IN SUPPORT OF THE GROWTH MANAGEMENT ACT
WHEREAS, the Bremerton City Council finds the Washington State Growth Management
Act to be critically important in ensuring coordinated long-range planning to accommodate the
anticipated growth of cities and counties throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, the Act has been instrumental in guiding the development of new
comprehensive plans, has helped identify and protect critical areas and natural resources, has
fostered a higher level of fiscal responsibility in the provision of necessary facilities and services,
and has resulted in progress toward interjurisdictional coordination and cooperation; and
WHEREAS, substantial investments of time, money, and other local resources have been
expended by governments, organizations, and citizens throughout the State in their efforts to
prepare comprehensive plans that comply with the Growth Management Act; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bremerton has worked dilligently and in good faith to comply with
all mandates of the Growth Management Act and is relying on our neighboring jurisdictions to
do the same, since compliance and the degree of plan consistency among jurisdictions will
greatly affect the implementation of our Plan; and
WHEREAS, the repeal of, or any substantial modifications to, the State Growth
Management Act would result in the waste of already expended public funds, time and effort,
and would undermine the faith and confidence of the general public in their State and local
governments; and
WHEREAS, the Washington State Legislature is now considering proposals that would
result in major changes to the Growth Management Act; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BREMERTON CITY COUNCIL that the Washington State
Growth Management Act is necessary and effective in fostering responsible long-range planning
and it is hereby requested that the Washington State Legislature refrain from making any
substantive changes to the Act. Modifications that would reduce the importance of the statewide
goals and guidelines or soften the mandates of the Act that currently guide planning and require
cooperation and coordination would be a disservice to the citizens of our community and the
State of Washington and would have adverse impacts on future generations.
RESOLVED this 22nd day of February, 1995.
