A RESOIUTION OE THE BREMERTON MUNICIPAL TRANSIT EFFECTUATING THE UNITED
STATES DEPARTHENT DF TRANSPORTATION REGULATIONS GOVERNING SECTION 504
OF THE REHABILITATION ACT OF 1973.
WHEREAS, the City of Bremerton, on November 24, 1981, received notification
of Grant Award No. WA-03-0044 from the United States Department of Trans-
portation for acquisition of six (6) new diesel transit coaches; and
WHEREAS, the six (6) new diesel transit coaches, per conditions of the Grant
Award and the United States Department of Transportatien regulations dated
May '31, 1979, were to include lift equipped devices for the handicapped; and
WHEREAS, on July 20, 1981, the United States Department of Transportation
pub] islned revised regulations eliminating the requirement that all new transit
coaches purchased with federal financial assistance must be handicapped
accessible; and
WHEREAS, on September 10, 1981, the City of Bremerton certified to the United
States Department of Transportation that special efforts are being made in our
service area to provide an alternative means of transportation to handicapped
persons, including wheelchair users and semiambulatory individuals: and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CiTY COMMfSSIONERS OF THE CITY OF
BREMERTON, WASHINGTON
Section 1. That Bremerton Municipal Transit hereby requests approval from
the United States Department of Transportation for the removal of handicapped
passenger lifts from our new diesel transit coaches.
Section 2. That the Mayor of Bremerton, GENE NELSON, hereby requestsapproval
from the United States Department of Transportation to reallocate the cost
savings; due to the removal of passenger lifts toward the acquisition of an
additional (7th) diesel transit coach.
Section 3. That Robert D. Theroux, City Grants Administrator, is authorized to
furnish such additional information as the United States Department of Trans-
portation may require in connection with the application for this project.
