A RESOLUTION of the Bremerton Municipal City Attorney
transit adopting a Transition Plan as
required by the United Stares Department
of Transportation regulations implementing
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
WHEREAS, on May 31, 1979, the Department of Transportation issued
regulations imlplinlenting Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973,
(hereinafter called "Regulations") which prohibit discrimination on the
basis of handicap in programs or activities benefitring from federal
financial assistance; and
WHEREAS, the Bremerton Municipal Transit was established pursuant
to RCW 55.92.060 to perform the function of a citywide public transportation
provider and its eligible to receive financial assistance from thu Department;
WHEREAS, Bremerton Municipal Transit has adopted as one of its
Transportation policies, to provide improved public transportation for the
transportation disadvantaged, including the elderly and handicapped; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 27.103 of the Regulations, and based
on said policies a Transition Plan has been prepared which identifies improve-
ments and policies necessary to achieve program accessibility for the
Bremerton Municipal Transit's public transportation system, and to become a
part of a regional plan adopted by the Puget Sound Council of Govermnents; and
WHEREAS Bremerton Municipal Transit is required to endorse the
portion of the regional plan it is resnponsible for implementing; and
WHEREAS, on September 4, 1980, a puplic hearing was held by the
Puget Sound Councel of Governments to receive comments on said Transition
Plan, which comments are reflected in the plan;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISIONERS OF THE
CITY OF BREMERTON, WASHINGTON
Section 1. Bremerton Municipal Transit hereby adopts the document
entitled Transition plan to Provide Public Transportation Services
Accessible to the Handicapped in the Kitsap Subregion," a copy of which is
attached as Exhibit A, in compliance with Department of Transportation
Regulations Implementing Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Section 2. That the Mayor of Bremerton, Glenn K. Jarstad, is
authorizcd to forward said document and this resolution to the Puget Sound
Council of Goverments for incorporation into the regional Transition Plan.
Section 3. That Robert D. Tberoux, Grants Administrator, is
authorized to provide the Puget Sound Council of Governments and the
United States Department of Transportation with such other certifications,
assurances and information as may be necessay to comply with said agencies
requirements and regulations.
PASSED AND APROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BREMERTON,
WASHINGTON this 10TH day of October 1980.
