HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015 RESOLUTION NO. 2015
WHEREAS, The USS Missouri is an integral part of the tourism industry within
Bremerton and contributes greatly to the economic base of the City; and
WHEREAS, the removal of the USS Missouri from the City of Bremerton will create
an adverse impact upon the city both in the loss of revenue and historical
identification; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Bremerton have and will continue to support the Navy as
a vital part of the community; and
WHEREAS, the Navy recognizes its responsibility to the City of Bremerton and the
positive identification brought to the city by the location of the USS
Missouri at P.S.N.S., and wishes to mitigate the adverse impact of the
activation and removal of the USS Missouri in an effort to further the
good neighbor policy as a vital part of the Navy-community relations in
Bremerton; and
WHEREAS, at a meeting in September, 1982, with Assistant Secretary of the Navy and
community leaders the Navy acknowledged to the City its desire to work
with the community to minimize the impact of the planned activation and
removal of the USS Missouri from P.S.N.S.; and
WHEREAS, during the meeting with the Navy and Bremerton leaders in September 1982
a letter was submitted by the City which identified an "11 Point Program"
for the Navy to address in order to mitigate the negative impact both
historically and economically; and
WHEREAS, the Bremerton City Council conceptually endorses the "ll Point Program"
submitted to the Navy in September 1982;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the "ll Point Program" submitted to the Navy in
September 1982 and attached hereto as Exhibit "A" is reaffirmed in principle as
an interim substitution to positively mitigate the negative impact of the activation
and removal of the USS Missouri from P.S.N.S., until its return. The City further
pledges to continue to work with the Navy to develop our common resources for the
community welfare.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Bremerton this
