Sec. 1. The words "Jitney bus" shall mean~nd include every meter propelled vehicl,
used in the occupation of. carrying persons, for hire, and by indiscriminately accept-
ing and discharging withi~the limits of the city of Bremerton such persons as may
ofl~er themselves for trans~l~ation for hire along the way, or course, on which such
vehicles are used. All such motor propelled vehicles shall be and are hereby classed
as '~itney busses" no mat~er what name may~ be g%~ven such vehicles by thei~ owner or
operator, and no mat~r~ere said busse~ay?r~ln or operate ~utside the limits of tl
Sec. 2. It shall .~ unlawful to operate o~ drive a Jitney bus except upon complian~
with the previsions ~th~is ordinanc~.~ The ~erson makAng application for a license t~
ope~e~ or have ~p~rated h~ereunder~a ~itney bus or busses shall, for the purposes o:

Sec. ~. Application for a jitney bus license shall be made to the city council by
iling same with the city clerk. Each application sh~ll state his name, age, place o~
esidence, number and make of Jitney bus ,or busses to be operated, and for which a
license is sought; the route or routes and the termini thereof, and the schedule pre-
posed to be maintained, which schedule shall be so arranged as to provide for one
round trip over s~id route e~ery hour between the ho~rs hereinafter set forth in
Section ~ of th~s Ordinance, and must be signed by applicant ~nd accompanied with the
lice~.~se fee or tax, or receipt of payment in other city.
Sec. ~. It shall be the duty of the owner of every jitney bus license ~ereunder
to see to it that such. jitney bus is operated, beginning ~t the ho~r of ~.JO o'clock
in the morning and continuing for a period of thirteen consecutive hours, of eac~ and
every day of the week, Sundays and holidays included, on the regular uniform schedule
set forth in the application for such license over the entire route, allowed by the
council. The owner shall have the ris~ht to so fix his schedule to operate more than
one bus on the sa~e route; such schedule shall provide for regular, uniform, contin-
uous trips, without layoffs or interrui~tions during the ~oortions of the day herein
referred to. Nothiug in this ordinance shall be construed to require the operation o~
jitney bus except ~etwwen the hours aforesaid; nor shall anything herein ~orohibit
the oloeration of a jitney bus as such between other hours of the day, provided said
bus follows the route in said license and complies with all other previs~i~ons of this
ordinance, other than pretaining to schedule.
Sec. 8. It shall be unlawful for the owner of any Jitney bus to fail ~o operate sa~
as in this ordinance set out or to fail to cover the entire route, each trip, and to
maintain the schedule or to permit a deviation from such route or schedule unless the
failure to s~, do shall be the result of acoident, the breaking down of the jitney bus,
closing of such route to vehicle traffic, congestion of traffic or some circumstance
in good faith beyond the ~ontrol of ~uch owner; and. in theevent of accident or break-
down the owner shall forthwith place another bus on said route and maintain ~is schedu
without unnecessary delay.
Sec. ?. The council, after Assuing a jitney bus licensefor a particular route, shal
during the life of luch license to prevent undue traffic congestion, or to secure
public safety, or convenience, have the power bj~~ resolution entered of record, to than
er alter, such route, schedule, or hours of operation or either or all of them, and th
owner holding such license shall ~,~omply with such change.
Sec. 8. The council shall have the right to refuse to grant a license, and shall no
have more than one license in force for the same route without the written consent of
the previous licensee or licensees.

~ec. 9. It shall be unlawful for an~ person to operate a Jitney bum unless there
te~.i.n force a valid license for such jxtney bus as in this ordinance provided. And
it shall be unlawful to operate a Jitney bus on any street outside the streets set
fer~hin the route granted by said council.
Sec. 10,. The council, for incompetency, or for any unlawful act, or for improper
conduct, or failure to comply with the license, or any provisions of this ordinsace,
may suspend or eevoke any license granted under the provisions of this ordinance,
nor shall a prior conviction in any court be necessary l~rerequisite to exercise by
the council of such right or authority.
Sec. ll. If any part of this ordinance shall be held unconstitutional, invalid
or void, such holding shall not affect the force and validity of the remaining
portions thereof.
Sec. 12. Every person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall,
upon conviction thereof, be deemed guilty f a misdemeanor and shall be punished
by a fine not exceeding $2B0. or by imprisonment in the city jail not to excee~
ninety days or by bo th such fine amd imprisonment.
Sec. lB. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect five days from and
after its apssage, approval and publication, as provided by law.
