HomeMy WebLinkAbout0823 ORDINANCE NO., 823 ~____~ AN ORDINANCE to license peddlers and hawkers within the City of Bremerton for the purpose ~f regulation and revenue, and providing penalties for the violation of any of the provisions thereof, and repealing Ordinance No. 810 of the City of Bremerton. and all other ordinances in conflict herewith. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY CO~,~ISSION 0~ THE CITY OF BR~.~EHTON, WASHINGTON AS POLL0~S: Section 1. Any person who carries goods, wares or merchandise, articles, things or personal property of whatsoever name, nature or description, from house to house, place to place, or upon any s~reet, highway or public place within the City of Bremerton, for sale, is hereby defined to be a peddler within the meaning of this ordinance; aery any person who goes from house to house, dwelling place to dwelling place, or upon any public street, highway or public place withi~ the City of Bremerton, soliciting or taking orders for the purchase or sale of goods, wares or merchandise, articles, t, hings or personal property of whatsoever name, nature or description to be delivered in the future, is also hereby defined to be a peddler within the meaning of this ordinance. Section ~. Every person,selling, or offering for sale, any goods, wares or merchandise, a~ticles, ~ings or personal property of whatsoever name, nature or description, by peddling the sa~ne from house to house, or upon any street, highway or public place, who shall make public outcry, or give any musical or other public entertainment or q~ake any public spgech to draw custom or attrac~ notice, is hereby defined to be a hawker within ~he meaning of this ordinance. Section ~. No person shall engage in the business of hawking or peddling, as defined in sections one and two of this ordinance, within the City of Bremerton, without first obtaining a license therefor in the manner hereinafter prescribed in this ordinance. Section ~, Tha~ the license fee to be paid by any person, desiring to engage in the business of peddler, as defined in section one of this ordinance, shall be ~ive Dollars per day, or if ~he license sought to be procured to engage in the business of peddler, as aforesaid, is for the period of one month the license fee shall be Twenty ~ive Dollars per month, provided, however, that no license shall be granted for a longer period than one month. Section 5. That the licmnse fee to be paid by any person desiring to engage in the business of a hawke~ as defined in section two of this ordinance, shall be Ten Dollars per day, or ~f the license sought to be procured to engage in the busines: of a hawker, as aforesaid, is for the period of one month, ~he licnese fee shall be ~ifty Dollars per month, provided, however, that no license shall be granted for a longer period than one month. Section 6. That any person desiring to engage in the business of a peddler, as defined in section one of ~l~is ordinance, within the City of Bremerton, shall make payment therefor in a~[vance to the City Treasurer, at the rates specified in section four of this ordinance, and shall take his receipt therefor, and shall present the same to ~he City Clerk, who sha±l the~'eupon issue to him a license as aforesaid. ~ Section ? That any person desiring ~o engage in the business of a hawker, as defined in section two of this ordinance, within the City of Bremerton, shall make .... payment .therefor in advance to the City Treasurer, a~ the rates specified in section five of this ordinance, and present the same to the City Clerk, who shall thereupon issue to him a license as aforesaid. Section 8. That any person engaging in the business o±' a peddler or hawker, as defined in sections one and two of this ordinance,within ~he City of Bremerton, who has obtained a license therefor from the City Clerk, shall upon demand being ~ade upon him by any police officer of said city forthwith produce ~he same for inspection. S~ction 9. Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction thereof, shall be fined in any sum not exceeding One Hundred Dollars, or by im~risonmen~ in the city jail no~ exceeding thirty days, or by both such i~ine and imprisonment. Section lC. Ordinance Nc. 810, and any and all other ordinances of the 0ity e~ Bremerton in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed. Section ll.
