HomeMy WebLinkAbout1108 ORDINANCE NO. 1108 AN ORDINANCE providing for the calling of a special election in each and every of the precincts of the City of Bremerton for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of said city the proposition as to whether or not the City Commission of the City of Bremerton should be authorized to le~y an additional tax of seven (7) mills for the year 1958 in addition to the fifteen mills allowed by law, for the purpose of constructing a public library. That a special election be and the same is hereby called in each and every of the precincts of the City of Br~merton to be held on Monday, the 7th day of December, 19.56, between the hours of eight o'clock A.I~. and eight O'clock P?M. of said day, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of said city the proposition as to whether or not the City Commission of the City of Bremerton shall be authorized to levy a tax of seven (7) mills on all the taxable property in the City of Bremerton for the year 19.58 in addition to the fifteen mills allowed by law for general purposes, for the purpose of constructing a public library upon the property owned by said city for such purpose. Section ~. That said city election shall be held on said 7th day of December, 1956, between the hours of eight o'clock k.~. and eight o'clock P.~., at the same time and in the same places as the city election for the election of officers of said city is to be held, and~notice thereof shall be given by publication in a newspaper printed and published in the City of Bremerton, for the period of not less than once a week for four (4) consecutive weeks ?riot 'to the said election, Section 5. The electors of the City of Bremerton are hereby notified to vote upon said proposition, and those desiring to vote in favor of said proposition shall place a cross (X) in the souare opposite the words, "For special levy". Those desiring to vote against said proposftion shall place a cross (X) in the square opposite the words, "Against Special Le.~y". Section 4. The inspectors and judges of election of said special election shall be the same inspectors and judges of election as are appointed for each of the several precincts within the City of Bremerton for the purpose of conducting the general election held on the same day and at the same places for the election of ~ayor and City Commissioners and as shall be hereafter designated and included in the notice of election, and all qualified and legal voters of the City of Bremerton shall be entitled to vote at said special election. Section ~. The City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and directed to give notice of such election by publication in a newspaper printed and ~ublished 'in the City of Bremerton for a period of four weeks prior to such election. Such notice shall distinctly state the proposition to be so submitted and the electors shall be invited thereby to vote upon such proposition by placing upon their ballots the words ~'For Special Levy" or "Against Special Levy", or words equivalent thereto, and the said City Clerk be and he is hereby further authorized and directed to prepare such special ballots for such special election, sufficient in humber for such purpose, and such proposition may be designated thereon as the proposition under a certain number to be voted at such special election, and other propositions may be included upon such special ballot and the Mayor and City Commissioners may be elected at the same time and places without in any wise affecting the legality of such special election, and all such special propositions as may be submitted to the voters of the City of Bremerton may be under one notice of election. Section 6. This ordinance sha].l be in full force and effect thirty days from and a~ter its passage and publication as provided by law.
