AN ORDINANCE a~propriating ~2'?0.00 from the "State Aid Fund", for salary
increases to the two assistant Librarians and a part-time janitor for the Library,
and declaring an emergency.
THE CITY OF BREMERTON DOES ORDAIN:
Section 1. That an emergency exists in the City of Bremerton, due to the
labor shortage and scarcity of trained employees ~nd the increased cost of living,
which has caused the Library Board of the Oity of Bremerton to reco~nend that
the salaries of the two assistant Librarians of the City of Bremerton be increased
from ~120.00 to .~140.00 per month beginning as of June 1, 1943, and that the
salary of the part-ti'me janitor of 'the Library be increased from ~95.00 per month
to ~100.00 per month, in order to adequately compensate such employees and in
order to keep them from accepting more lucrative employment elsewhere; that funds
are available in the amount budgeted to the Library for salaries and wages for
the year 1943, but that such f~.mds may not legally be used for purposes of
increasing salaries and wages.
Section ~. That the City of Bremerton has funds on han~ in the "State Aid
Fund" pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 81 of the 1943 Laws of Washington to
take care of emergency expenditures and the~?e is hereby appropriated the sum of
~2VO.O0 from said "State Aid Fund", to be paid, in addition to the salary of
~.00 per month at the rate of ~0.00 per month to each of the two Assistant
Librarians and at the rate of ~5.00 per month, in a~dltton to the salary of
.'$95.00 per month, to the part-time janitor of the Library, monthly, beginning as
of June 1, 1943, and the proper city officers are hereby directed to execute such
warrants in the total s~m of ~270.00 to and including the month of December, 1943.
Section 3. An emergency exists affecting the public peace, health and safety
a~,~d this ordinance shall be come effective immediately following passage and
publication.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Bremerton, signed by the Mayor,
and attested b?f the City Clerk in authentication of such passage, this 4th day
of August, 1943.
