AN ORDINANCE declai~ing the need for the condemnation of real property
adjacent to the City Hall for a City Hall Annex; directing the institution
of comdemnation proceedings for the taking and payment of just compensation
for real property described as follows: Lots 14 and 15, Block 7, Plat of
the Town of Bremerton, Kitsap County, Washington, and declaring an emergency.
THE CIl~ff OF BREMERTON DOES ORDAIN:
Section 1. That the City of Bremerton has increased in population
from approximately 15,000 in 1940 to approximately 80,000 in 1945, and that
the City of Bremerton has greatly increased its area by annexation proceed-
ings, and is contemplating a further increase in its area depending on the
outcome of annexation elections in territories adjacent to the City of
Bremerton.
Section 9. That the increase in population and territorial limits of
the City of Bremerton have caused a greatly overcrowded condition in the
City Hall of the City of Bremerton, which houses the offices of the elective
officials cf the City of Bremerton, the several departments of city government,
including the police department and city Jail, and employees of said depart-
ments, and that' it is essential to public welfare that additional space be
acquired for the construction of a City Hall Annex.
Section 3. That the following described property, to-wit: Lots 14 and
15, Block 7, Plat of the Town of Bremerton, Kitsap ~our~ty, Washington, is
located contiguous to the City Hal. l, being south of the City Hall,
necessary and advisable that said real property be condenmed forthwith, that
Just compensation he fixed in appropriate condemnation proceedings, to be
paid to the ovmers thereof, and that additional space be made available at
the earliest possible moment to relieve the crowded condition and confusion
existing in the City Hall, and particula~ly in the city Jail of the City of
Bremerton.
Section 4. That the City Attorney of the City of Bremerton is hereby
instructed and directed to immediately prepare condemnation proceedings for
the condemnation of said. ~eal property and to proceed with the condemnation
thereof is the Superior Court of the State of ~ashington for Kitsap County.
~ection 5. That an emergency exists affecting public peace, health
and safety, and this ordinance shall become effective immediately following
passage and publication.
PASSED UNANIMOUSLY by the members, of the City Council of the City of
Bremerton, signed by the Mayor, and attested by the City Clerk in authentica-
