AN 0RDI~ANCE amending Ordinance No. 1418, entitled: "An ordinance
regulating the erection, construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, moving,
removal, conversion, demolition, occupancy, equipment, use, height, area, and
maintenance of buildings and/or structures in the City of Bremertpn, ~ashington;
providing for the issuance of permits and collection of fees therefor; declaring
and establishing Fire Districts; providing penalties for the violation thereof,
and repealing all ordinances and/or parts of ordinances in conflict therewith,"
by amending Section 1603 and 1604, and declaring an emergency.

Section 1. That Section 1603 of Ordinance No. 1418 of the City of Bremerto~
be and the same is hereby auended to read as follows:
Sect ion 1603.
General: Buildings or structures hereafter erected, constructed,
moved within or into Fire Zone 2 shall b~ any use permitted in
Fire Zone 1 provided regulations pertaining thereto as heretofore
provided, are complied with, or may be one of the types of
construction as defined in this ordinance and shall meet the
requirements of this section and no building of type 3-4 or 5
construction to be more than three stories or thirty eight (38)
feet.
(b) Limitation of Types of Construction: Buildings or structures
of Type 1V or Type V construction having an area greater than
seventy-five hundred square feet (7,500)sq.ft. shall not be
erected, constructed, or moved within or into Fire Zone No. ~,
and such h~ildings shall have all exterior walls of not less
than one-hour fire-resistive construction; provided that when
such exterior walls are less than three feet (3 ft.) from
adjacent property lines or less than six feet (6 ft.) from
buildings on the' stone property, the exterlor walls shall be o~
· n~ot less~'than ~-four-hour fire resistive construction. Roof
covering shall be g fire-retardant roof covering as specified
in Section 430~.
Except ions:
1. Exterior walls oD Type IV buildings not more than two
thousand square feet (~,000 sq.ft.) in area are not required
to be one-hour fire-resistive if three feet (3 ft.) or more
from adjacent property lines and six feet (6 ft.) or more from
buildings on the s~e property.
2. Buildings of Type V construction shall have all interior
walls, partitions, ceilings and under floors over used spaces,
o~ not less than one-hour fire-resistance construction as set
forth in Chapter 40.
3. Exterior walls fronting on a street having a width of at
least thirty feet ~0 ft.) may be of incombustible construct-
ion with all structural members fire-protected as required of
one-hour fire-resistance, as specified in Chapter 43.
(c) Alterations: No building or Type IV construction in excess of
one thousand square feet (1,000 sq. ft.) in floor area nor any
building or Type V construction except as specified in Subsection
(b) already erected in Fire Zone ~o. 2, shall hereafter be altered,
raised, enlarged, added to or moved except as follows:
1. Such building may be made to conform to the provisions of
Subsection (b) of this Section.
2. Changes, alterations and repairs to the interior of such
buildihg or to the front tt~ereof facing a public street may be
made provided such changes do not, in the opinion of the Building
Inspector, increase the fire hazard of such 'building.
3. Roofs of such buildings may be covered only with a fire
retardant roofing as specified in Section 430~. See Section 104
for repairs.
4. Such building may be moved entirely outside the limits of
~'ire Zone No. 2.
~. Such building may be demolished.
6. Combustible iinish on the outisde of walls may be replaced

Section ~.. That Section 1O04 of Ordinance ~o. 1418 of the 0ity of
Bremerton, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 160~. Any building or structure complying with the
requirement of ~he code may be erected, constructed, moved
within or into Fire Zone 1~o. Z.
Section 3. That an emergency exists affecting the peace, health,
safety and welfare of the citizens of Bremerton, and that this ordinance
shall become effective i~-~nuediately following passage and publication.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Bremerton, signed by the
I~ayor, and attested by the City Clerk in authentication of ~uch passage,
