AN 0RDIN~CE relating to anc~ regulating the installation and the use
of' pipes, fixtures and apparatus maintained for the use o~~ natural, manu-
factured or mixed gas, and amenaing 0r~inance No. 1617.
'~-'HE CITY OF BR].~iERTON gOES ORDAIN:
Section 1. That 0rdinsmce No. 1617, entitled "An ordinance relating
to anc~ regulating the installation anti use of pipes, fixtures and apparatus
use~ or in,tended to be used ~o conauct or consume natural, manufactured or
mixed gas, in the City of Bremerton, prov'i~ing penalties for the violation
oI' the provisions thereo~' an~ declaring an ~ergency", dated 1~pril 11, 1~$,
be anm the same is hereby so, ended by adding a new section thereto to b e de-
signated as Section 1 (a), reaming as follows:
Section 1 (a). For the purpose o~~ ~his ordinance, the term "natural",
"manufactured" or "mixed" gas shall include any liquefied petroleum gas
and shall include but not be limited to p~opane or butane gas.
Section 2. Section 4 o~' Ordinance No. 1617 0e an~ 'the sscae is hereby
a~ended to read as ~bllows:
Section 4o It shall be unlawful z'or any person or persons to install
or cause to be installed any gas appliance and/or house gas piping in the
City oI' Bremerton without obtaining a permit from the inspector so to mo;
except that no permit shall be required for work dei'ined as "minor repairs~o
No permit shall be issued for the insta~±ation oi' any gas appliances
in'~the City of' Bremerton unless it has been approve~ by and bears the seal
of the American Cas Association, except that used appliances not bearing
s~ch seal may be reconnected if, in the opinion of the gas inspector,, t~e
appliance complies with the standards o~' ~ai'ety set by the Association.
Section 3. That Section 11 of Ordinance 1716 be and ~he same is here-
0y amenae~ to read as follows:
Section 11. Permits for house gas piping shall show the total number
oi' gas outlets to be pro,~Jdea for and s~ch other inI'ormation as may be re-
quired by the inspector,, except that no permit shall be granted for any ap-
pliance using propane, butane, or similar products which is located in
basements or pits that ac ,'~ot have adequate ventilation by gravity to the
outside from near the floor level or any other low place where gas might
collect ~o form a dangerous I'lmmmable mixture.
Section 4. That Section 13 cz' 0rc~.nance No. 1617 be and. the sm~e is
hereby amenaed to read as follows:
Section 13. Ail gas piping shall be new or shall have previously been
used I'or no other pta~pose ~an conveying gas and may be oI' wrought iron,
steel, brass or copper, with galvanized steel, brass or copper fittings
and shall be suitable i'or a working pressure of not less ~21an 125# per
square inch. Copper pipe may be cz~ type K or L.
Illegal fittings. Unions shall not be use~ except for final connect-
ions to appliances. Bushings sha±l not be used. ~en it-becomes necessary
to reduce thepipe size, it shall be 0one by reducing tees, ells, or coupl-
ing s.
Pipe joints may be screwed, I'langed or welaed aha sha'~l be designed
for a workin6 pressure of 125# per sqaare inch. Joints on seamless copper,
brass or steel tubing shall be made by means cz' approved gas tube fittings.
Further provi~led that all p~pe joint compounds shall be applied to the
male -threads only and shall be oi' a type approved for that type gas.
Section 5. That Section 22 of Ordinance No. 1617 be and 'the same is
hereby ~nenmed to read as follows:
Section 22. The size o~. each portion of a system o~' gas piping shall
be determined by means of the followinf, i table::
