draining of private premises, and amending Section 1
of Ordinance No. 1673, and declaring an emergency.
THE CITY OF BREMERTON DOES ORDAIN:
Section 1. Section 1 of Ordinance No. 1673 be and the same hereby
is amended to read as follows:
~'Se'ction 1. Connection with pub!ia sewer required:
The owner or occupant of any lands or premises shall
connect such premises and all ditches, water closets
and waste pipes located thereon and used as a receptacle
or conductor of filth or sewerage with the nearest
accessible public sewer, whenever in the case of platted
lands there is a public sewer within one block thereof,
or, in the case of unplatted lands, there is a public
sewer within three hundred (300) feet thereof, and in
all cases where the City Health Officer shall determine
that the public health and safety shall require it, to
construct, or cause to be constructed, a sufficient
sewer or drain pipe in the manner hereinafter set forth;.
PROVIDED HOWEVER, that such connection to nearest access-
ible public sewer shall not be required nor permitted
to a "force main'~ or ~pressure line" carrying sewage
from a pumping station under pressure,' unless the City
Engineer finds that a service connection to the ~force
main?~ or ~pressure line~ will not interfere in any manner
with the proper functioning of that line and the property
owner applies for such connection, or, if the property
owner does not apply therefore, such connection, if app-
roved by the City Engineer, shall be required if the City
Health Officer finds that a nuisance or health hazard
exists from use of the property without such connection.
The City Health Officer is hereby authorized and empow-
ered, and it shall be his duty, to prohibit the use of
any privy well or vault upon any premises in the City
of Bremerton~ whenever the use and maintenance thereof
is detrimental or dangerous to life and health, and to
order any such privy well or vault to be disinfected
and filled with fresh earth l to order a cesspool be con-
structed upon any such premises, and to order the plumb-
ing installed in any building or structure located there-
on to be connected with the drain into such cesspool. ~
Section 2. That an emergency exists and is hereby declared to
exist effecting the public peace, health and safety of the citizens of the
City of Bremerton and this ordinance shall be in effect immediately
following passage and publication.
APPROVED and PASSED unanimously by the City Council of the City of
Bremerton, signed by the Mayor and attested by the City Clerk in authen-
