AN ORDINANCE amending Ordinance No.2722, § 3,
relating to procedure for agent
collection of utility bills
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BREMERTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN:
Section 3 of Ordinance No. 2722 shall be
amended to read as follows:
3.48.030 PROCEDURE FOR COLLECTION. (a) All sums received by
each agent shall be forwarded, together with receipted stubs to
the city treasurer in sufficient time to insure receipt by the
treasurer prior to eleven a.m. of the next business day following
collection.
(b) The agent shall cause each receipt to be marked
"paid" in bold and legible print on the reverse side of the
billing or statement, together with the date of payment.
(c) No corrections or changes shall be made except
when the customer presents the previous billing or statement
showing payment thereof, and, if agent is satisfied that a
correction or change is therefor proper, such correction may be
made. Agent may refuse to make changes or corrections and may
refuse to receive and receipt for any billings or statements
appearing to him to be altered, obscure, erroneous, or debatable.
Any corrections or changes made by agent shall be clearly
indicated upon the bill or statement with permanent red marking
in such fashion as to not obscure the matter corrected. Agent
shall not accept partial payment of any bill or statement.
(d) The agent shall, in addition to providing fidelity
bond set forth in Section 3.48.020, agree by accepting
appointment as agent and by acting as such agent, to indemnify
and save and hold harmless the mayor, city treasurer, or the City
of Bremerton against any loss or damage they or any of them may
incur or suffer resulting from, caused by, or arising out of any
act or acts of the agent or his employees.
