AN ORDINANCE adopting provisions prohibiting firearms in certain public places,
and amending Chapter 9A.24 of the Bremerton Municipal Code.
THE CITY OF BREMERTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN:
Section 1. New Section. A new section is hereby added to Chapter 9A.24,
FIREARMS AND DANGEROUS WEAPONS, to read as follows:
9A.24.220 FIREARMS PROHIBITED IN CERTAIN PLACES.
(a) It is unlawful for any person to enter the following places when he or she
knowingly possesses or knowingly has under his control a firearm:
(i) A courtroom or judge's chamber, while either is being used for any
judicial proceeding. This does not include common areas of egress or
ingress of the courtroom building.
(2) That portion of an establishment classified by the State Liquor Control
Board as off-limits to persons under twenty-one years of age.
(b) (1) Subsection (a) does not apply to:
i. Law enforcement personnel or
ii. A person engaged in military activities sponsored by the federal
or state governments, while engaged in official duties; or
iii. Security personnel while engaged in official duties.
(2) Subsection (a)(1) does not apply to a judge or court employee or to
any person licensed under RCW 9.41.070 who obtains written
permission to possess the firearm for the judge or designated
employee.
(3) Subsection (a)(2) does not apply to the proprietor of the premises or
his employees while engaged in their employment.
(c) The perimeter of the premises of any specific location covered by subsection
(a) shall be posted at reasonable intervals to alert the public as to the existence of this
ordinance restricting the possession of firearms on the premises.
