AN ORDINANCE authorizing the purchase of an 80 acre parcel from the
utility fund through condemnation for the purpose of controlling the Utilities
Union River watershed.
WHEREAS, the City operates a surface watershed in the Union River basin; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to acquire remaining land in this watershed to control
source waters and avoid the high cost of water filtration by the Utility; now, therefore,
THE CITY OF BREMERTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN:
Section 1. Necessity for Condemnation. The City finds that it is necessary to acquire
that property adjacent to the City's Union River watershed within the hydrologic basin to
protect the City's drinking water from contamination.
Section 2. Condemnation. The City shall proceed to condemn the parcel set forth
and legally described as:
South 1/2 Southwest 1/4 Section 13, Township 24 North, Range 1 West,
W.M.
The Mayor is authorized to execute purchase agreements in lieu of condemnation for any
of the parcels listed in Exhibit "A".
Section 3. Funding. The City shall pay the cost of the condemnation from the
Water Fund.
Section 4. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect ten (10) days from
passage and publication.
