AN ORDINANCE officially dedicating the S.P. "Pat" Carey Vista as a
Bremerton City Park, including the Vista under the Parks Protection
Ordinance and amending Chapter 13.12 of the Bremerton Municipal Code.
WHEREAS, the Bremerton Parks and Recreation Commission and the City of
Bremerton Parks and Recreation Department have built a viewing vista on the Port
Washington Narrows; and
WHEREAS, the Bremerton Parks and Recreation Commission have designated this
vista as the S.P. "Pat" Carey Vista in recognition of Parks and Recreation Commissioner
(Emeritus) S.P. "Pat" Carey; and
WHEREAS, Mr. S.P. "Pat" Carey has served the City of Bremerton with distinction
for over 30 years as a member of the Bremerton Parks and Recreation Commission; and
WHEREAS, the persevering efforts of Mr. S.P. "Pat" Carey have resulted in the
development of parks and recreational areas and open space preservation in the City of
Bremerton, including NAD Park, NAD Marine Park, and Stephenson Canyon; and
WHEREAS, Mr. S.P. "Pat" Carey was instrumental in the development of numerous
Washington State Parks in the Bremerton area including, Blake Island, Manchester, (~)~
Ward and Scenic Beach State Parks and, also, was instrumental in the passage of Initiative
215; and
WHEREAS, Mr. S.P. "Pat" Carey was appointed as Honorary Chair and
Commissioner of the Bremerton Parks and Recreation Commission by Bremerton City
Resolution 2326; and
WHEREAS, 1989 Citizen's Referendum Ordinance 4283 authorizes the City Council
to add properties to the protected parks listing in the Bremerton Municipal Code 13.12.010
by City Council majority vote of those present; now, therefore,
THE CITY OF BREMERTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN:
Section 1. Amendment. Section 13.12.020is hereby amended to read as follows:
13.12.020 PROPERTIES.
(a) The following commonly known parks of the City of Bremerton shall fall under
the provisions of this chapter:

(1) Warren Avenue Play Field

{18) S.P. "Pat" Carey Vista
(b) The City Council may, by a simple majority of those present, add any parks lands
to the list above. Any additions made by the Council would fall under the full provisions
of this chapter.
Section 2. Effective Date. This ordinance shall become effective ten (10) days from
passage and publication.
