Regular meeting of the City Commission of the City of Bremerton,Washington. held
St ten o'clock I,,Iaroh 1J,19g9 with Mayor Oldham presiding, Commissioners Halverson and
Casad and City Attorney Stevenson being present at roll call.
!finutes of previous meeting read and corrected to show that Clerk was instructed
to advertise for bids on official publieat&ons; minutes were then approved.
Letter read from L~. Uland from whom the,City of Charleston purchased some property
for street purposes IL.I,d. S71) and claiming he only sold about half of the lot but the
deed had been made and recorded for all of:~it; ther~ore htr Uland requested the commiss
ion to deed the part back which was not needed for street purposes, on motion of Mr.
Halverson and Hr Oldham communication was referred to City Engineer.
A large delegation of interested property owners in the proposed new Local Imp.Dist.
in the vicinity of Elizabeth Avenue, appeared before the commission, some being in faro
of proposed improvement and some being opposed. It was finally decided to send out
cards to all property owners in the proposed district, so as to ascertain theirl
as to whether the improvement should be made or not.
I,~r. i~[ike Lowrey appeared before the commission and claimed that he had been put tO
unnessary expense by inaccurate information given by Engineering department as to the
location of sewer connection in front of his property, and requesting the commission
to reemburse him.
Motion by ~. Casad and htr 01dham to refer to the Commissioner of ~inance to
if sewer connection was charged on rolls of improvement district, oarrJ, ed. all members
voting, Yes.
Clerk read contract with Horluck Transportation Company for landing privilege at
C~ty Wharf. contract was corrected to read $~5.00 where shown $50.00.
Llotion by Mr. Halverson and ~. Oldham to approve contract as read and corrected
and authorize I~ayor and Clerk to sign same, carried as follows: Mr. 01dham, Yes.
Mr. Halverson, Yes. ~,.~. Casad, Yes.
Clerk read contract with ~anette Transportation Company and same was referred to
City Attorney for correction as to Liability Insurance and gate barrier.
Diction by ~gr. Halverson and ~. Oldham to approve contract when corrected and
authorize the Mayor and Clerk to sign same, carried as follows: Mr. 01dham, Yes.
LIr. Halver~on, Yes. Mr. Casad, Yes.
I~. Casad rep0rte~i!,].~t?awater valve situated at or near where htr. Omar has erected
a gas station, and on motion of ~M. Casad and Mr. 01dham the matter was referred to
the City Attorney with instructions to inform ~M. Omar the city would ~old him res
ible for any damage to the valve.
~gr. Casad reported that the Job of changing the water pipe~ in, the tunnel had been
completed, and the improvement would be the means of great saving to the water departme
Llotion by l~r Oldham and M. Halverson to reject the petition for pa~Yng on north side
of Burwell Avenue, carried, all mambers voting, Yes.
