The Chief of Police introduced Albert H. DeLeon and said Mr. DeLeon was pre-
sent to talk with the Council about his application to place pinball machines in
his place of business known as the Shuffleboard Club, 647-4~ 4th Street. Mr. De-
Leon stated it was the opinion oi' those with whom he is associated not to have
any minors and they had competent help to Xeep from having minors.
Mayor asked if this was a departure from the original policy oI' catering to
young people and Mr. DeLeon answered this was t rue as it didn't wore out and
they are going to have a shuffleboard lounge and will have teams to compete a-
mong different business, houses. The shuffleboard game is being nationall~ ad-
.vertised. Mr. DeLeon stated they have a snack bar and a recording machine for
making records and a few other items of amusement; they have no card games and
are not running a penny arcade. He said it is a beautiful place and a credit
to the City. It is a place to take up leisure time. He said they don't want
minors but just sailor boys, etc.
Chief of Police Lewis stated as long as they don't have any minors he has;
no objection to pinball machines.
Mayor said they try to prohibit pinball machines from places frequented by
children; that at first Mr. DeLeon's intention was to create a place for juve-
niles to recreate in. Apparently since that time they have changed their idea
on it and are not going to cater to minors but set up a place for adults. Mr. DeLeon stated that was right.
Chief oI' Police, on direct question from the Mayor, stated he had no ob-
jection as long as there are no minors there and thereupon signed his name to
the application.
Clerk then read the application for a Location License to install pinball
machines at the Shuffleboard Club, 847-49 Fourth Street, signed by Albert H.
DeLeon and approved by C. Lewis, Chief of Police.

Mayor Kean commented that Mr. Poll had talked to him of the Shuffleboard
Club and had come to him with an application in his hand for pinball machines
and inI'ormed the Mayor they would not let minors operate the machines but the
sailors would play them.
Mayor Kean said he told Mr. Poll that the pinball ordinance in force was
a good one and that he should t~ce the application bac~ to Mr. Lewis to approve
an~ ~r. Poll ha~ said O~at Mr. Eewis wouldn,t approve it and wanted to know if
the Council would approve the application. Mr. DeLeon has apparently become in-
terested in the ~huffleboard Club and they have changed their policy.
Motion by Mr. Kean aua Mr. Wheaton to adjourn carried.
APPROVED: City Clerk
