Ernie Lent spoke against this proposed ordinance and in favor of keeping the present ordinance. Some of the reasons given by ~r. Lent were tha~ pre- sent code is more uniform than the proposed ones that proposed code has never b~en approved by National Association nor International Journeymen; incr~aae cost of plumbing; will have to call on the inspector before doing a Job; and will cause a more confusing situation than now caused. Clerk stated th4t many times no certified check accompanied a bid and wondered if this should be eliminated from the bid call. Mr. Cecil oi' Silerts sta~ed that it was often hard to obtain a certified check because of the lack of sufficient time between receiving the notice of sale and bid opening date; however, he could arrange to get a certified check for about two thousand dollars and have it on hand for each'big opening. Mr. Taylor mentioned that many companies are not bidding because their bid is pu01ished in the newspaper and complaints are received from people in this area from whom they are buying logs because the price bid the City and the price paid 9hem is different. City Attorney explained that the city's business is public and cannot be kept from the public. Motion by Mr. Wheaton and Mr. Kean to accept Silerts bid, carried.
