Due to these changes the City has to re- submit their applications for the improvement of the intersections on PSH No. · 1 and SSH No. 21-B. Mr. Jenks Beard, representing the Board of Realtors, appeared before the Council to further discuss the newspaper article in regard to t he information July 29, 1955 (Con't) given b~ the real estate men to the census interviewer. Mr. Beard stated that he had contacted the real estate offices and no one knowlingly had talked to the census man and he stated they were not capable of giving out the number of vacancies here in Bremerton which would help to determine a population figure. Mayor Yowell stated that the newspaper had misquoted him a s he never t alk- ed to the census man but received his information from the City Clerk. The City Clerk explained that since the last meeting he had called Mr. Wend- ling, census interviewer, and Mr. Wendling advised h~m that he had contacted six real estate agents in downtown area and they all agreed that there were con- siderable vacancies and felt that the population of Bremerton was presently sta- tic but may have increased from 300 to 800. After this conversation over the telephone Mr. McGowan felt perhaps he should have a letter t o this effect and a letter was received from Mr. Calvin F. Sc~mid, Executive Secretary, State of Washington Census Board, The City Clerk read the letter which stated that the information Mr. Wend- ling submitted on housing vacancies was obtained from builders and contractors, real estate people, and housing project officials and further stated that this information was only a small portion of the data used in deriving the final population estimate.
