The City Attorney will receive a letter on thAs matter. Attorney Garland appeared before the Council representing the various elec- trical contractors in regard to the "sign ordinance" which was passed last week. He stated the contractors were objecting to the following and why: 1. The licensing of sign people - He stated that the electrical contractors pay ~50.OO for a city license, a fee to the State for a permit and in this way a man has to oea qualified electrical man before he can obtain a license therefore it was thought by the contractors they already have an electrical license showing they are able to construct signs and for that reason they shouldn't have to buy an- other license. 2. Wooden signs - In regard to the construction of signs it eliminates all wooden signs in effect and this will increase the cost of s~gns. 3. Section 5 - Maintenanbe of signs - The Building Inspector is given auth- ority to tell a businessman when his sign needs to be redecorated and Mr. Garland felt the general condition of the signs should be none of the City's business. The contractors were in accord with part of Section 5 relating to the Building In- spector checking the safe structural condition of signs at all times. Mr. McLeod, the Building Inspector, stated he felt the sign ordinance was for the hanging of signs and not for the construction or making up of the signs. He further felt ~his ordinance was necessary for the regulation of what precautions to be taken. Mr. Holland, City Attorney, felt the $50.00 license fee was just for the peo- ple who hang the signs as t ere has been no supervision over hanging of signs and his interpretation of the ordinance is just hanging of signs. The electrical code doesn't give an electrician permission to hang signs. Mr. ~?neaton stated he did think it was the City's business regarding the gen- eral condition of the signs a~d suggested the matter be taken up with the Building Inspector, City Attorney and the Commissioner for any necessary discussion on these comments ma~e by Attorney Garland. Commissioner Cullin reported ti~ere will be no parking on the wharf because if one person is permitted to park there others would Oe entitled to do the same and that is why the City has blocked that portion of the wharf. Mr. Wheaton reported that y&sterday he inspected Clare's Marsh with several others and a program was set up by the State and County to take care of the drain- age problems. He stated the City has done everything they can do for instance the drainage problem at Olympic Manor ha~ been taken care of. Motion by Mr. Domstad and Miss Cullin the bills be paid if approved by a maj- ority of the Commissioners, carried. Meeting adjourned. APPH0 VED: City G~I e rk · - Mayor
