the Library had asked for less than the two mills on the present valnation figure,
Mr. Clark recommended only giving them the amount requested.
~r. Vaa stated the amount which could be taken off was ~B,8~?.80.

This matter was laid over until the City Attorney would come to the Council
room.
City Attorney Holland came into the Council room and gave some study to the
salary ordinance, called attention to the fact that step increases are based on
being given if funds are available and since funds are not available for step In-
creases the Council may in its discretion allow $10.00 increase; however, Nr. Hol-
land stated he would recommend the City Council get the employees on step as soon
as possible and in the meantime he furth r recommended that some study be given to
making the step system more flexible by making steps as low as $8.00.
Mr. Vaa stated h~ would be glad w~len he has time to try to work with ~epart-
ments along these lines.
Commissioner Clark questioned wi~ether the employees, other than Police and Fire,
would rather have a $10.00 raise or would still like to have supplementation to
Social Security which had been requested by the Breme~ton City ~ployees Assn. sev-
eral weeks ago by letter.

~r. Balazic and ~r. Crist thanked the City Council for giving consideration to
their men and said they were happy to have received the raise as granted.
After discussion of the salary for FredSchoneman, S~reet Supt., for next year,
