Clerk read letter from St~Oe Representative Pat Nicholson to the City Council, dated~?May 26, 1959 offering his assitance in the matter of the proposed ordinance dealing with obscene materials and proposing establishment of a city censor board; and that the 1959 'Legislature has enacted Chapter 105, dealing with this subject, and there is interest in the same at the Federal Law enforcement level, with crimin- al statutes to cover sale and distribution of obscene materials; and that in view of the adequacy of law already on the books it appears to him that establishment of a City censor board would be unwise; further, he offered his help in obtaining an op- inion from the State Attorney as to whether existing law is adequate. Mr. Phillip Soule sbated~he represented the Multiple Listing Bureau and the bur- eau is opposed to any king of a censor board or authority to appoint any censor board until the need is proven. City Attorney duscussed the difficulty of getting a com- plaint signed by a citizen. Motion by Mr. Domstad and Mr. Clark that Mr. Lewis and Mr. Holland contact Pat Nicholson and the Prosecuting Attorney and look into this Public Law 105, Laws of 1959, and if that covers it entirely maybe this ordinance will not be necessary, and until that time can hold the matter up, carried. On the hearing to be held June 10th on sidewalk repairs for 628 and 6~0 Burwell, since the Council meeting will not be held on that date, Mr. McGowan asked what should be done. May 27, 1959 (Con't) City Attorney advised no change is necessary in the date as the protests have to ~ filed in.writing.
