SUMMARY: The current City Fire Code does notrequire the installation of automatic sprinkler
systems in buildings containing two or less residential dwelling units. The proposed ordinance
provides for the incorporation of automatic sprinkler systems as a component of the domestic water
system of residential units providing an incentive to install such systems when not required and
provides a tool for innovative development such as incorporating reduced street widths into the
development design. A fee offset will also be provided to encourage installation of automatic
sprinkler systems.
