Block joists at beam 2. Handrails shall be provided the full length of the stairway on both sides, and shall be mounted 34" to 38" above the nosing of the treads. The handrail shall begin 6" before the top step and be continued 23" beyond the bottom step on at least one side. 3. Gate/door must be openable from the stairway without the use of a key. 4. Gate/door may not swing over a step. Provide a landing, minimum 44" x 44" on both sides of the door. 5. Pier blocks must be poured in concrete, minimum 12" x 12" x 6". 6. Exit door at top of stairway may have only one locking device, openable from the inside without a key or special knowledge or effort (thumb latch, panic hardware, etc.) P.S. I spoke to Pam about whether PeeWees would qualify for a block grant for remodeling this building. She said if at least 51 % of the people served were low income, or if the site is located in a designated low income neighborhood, they would qualify. Tell Greg he should take an application packet.
