The books of the City show the following receipts and disbursements for the first foul' months of 1914,and in view of the coming election, which will be held Hay £6,1914. to determine whether the City should acquire the present li~t plant, the figures may be of interest to all our Citizen's; the figures for expense are the actual figures, while the receipts are computed on the actual receipts except for t~xes and liquor lic- enses,of which only one third has been taken. EO To tals $105~. 9~ It will be seen from above figures that the wharf has made good to the extent of $65?.42 over all expense and interest, and by strict economy we have gained $?71.20 over our expenses and reduced our indebtedness accordingly and if this' rate of income and economy could be maintained it would take exactly eighteen years and two months to clean up our present indebtedng~§..~.~t~~ other income producing properties~E-n~ if we lighting the amounts paid for lights at the Park and 'f~arf we would have enou~ from this source alone to pay interest on more bonds than will be needed to pay the general bonded indebtedness provided for by ordinance No.498 providing for the purchase of the electric light plant. It is claimed by some of those who are oposed to l,{unicipal ownership that the City could not make the plant pay; here are some estimates:- The approximate operating expense ac the plant at the present time ~s close to ~l.?00. per month, and the gross receipts about $5.000.00 per month. The plant at the present time will clear ~ between Two and Three Thousand pe~ month and this can be doubled in course of time by giving the people about a three per cent rate for cooking and heating purposes. ,Ye believe this plant can be made to pay for itself in ten ymars, besides giving the people a substantial reduction in the price of lighting and also current for cooking, heating and power and that it will also give a substantial revenue to clean up our present indobtedness. .
