HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/07/19 445 Bremerton, Washington Tuesday January ?th 1919~ City Council called to order by Mayor Giles at 7.45 o'clock P.M. all members of the Council being present except Mr Bunker. Minutes of previous session read and approved as read. Attorney Bryan reported that the Superior 0curt had decided against the City on the issuance of $65.000.00 Utility bends, and he urged the the council "to keep the matter alive" by appeal to higher court; no action was taken on this report. The Mayor announced that announced the old $ouncil had come to the end of its labors,and instructed the Clerk to call the roll of the new members ; the Mayor administered the oath of office to the following; H. E. German, City Attorney, J.A.McGillivray Councilman at large. E.M.Huestis, Earl Williams and 0hristian Olson,Oouncilmen for four years. Mr Gorman administered the oath of office to Mr M.E.Giles as Mayor. The Treasurer and Clerk had alread~qualified before Judge Turner, U.S.0ommissioner. Bonds for Treasurer, Attorney and Clerk were submitted and on motion of McGill- ivray and Bowdoin were approved. The Mayor made a statement to the 0ouncil in which he outlined his policy for coming term and expressed the hope that harmony would prevail and that all would work together for the good of the Oity~ he then appointed the following committees and on motion of McGillivray and ~¥illiams appointments were confirmed. ~inance and License Huestis, Haddgn and Olson. Utilities McGillivray, ~illiams and Haddon. Purchasing Haddon, Pittack and Williams. Streets Olson, Huestis and Fi~ack. Sanitation & Cemetery Pittack. McGillivray and Cleon. ~ranchise & Ordinance Bowdoin, Huestis and McGillivray. ~ire and Light Williams, Bowdoin and Huestis. Building Olson, Bowdoin and ~?illiams. The ~ayor appointed the following officers. ~red. Watrous, Chief of Police. Motion by McGilli~ray and Huestis to confirm, tarred. Parker Rance, Marshal. Motion by Bowdoin and ~illiams to confirm, carried. ~rank ~hite, ~harfinger, Motion by McGillivray and Huestis to confirm, carried. ~.~.Hathaway, Engineer, Motion by i~illiams and McGillivray to confirm, carried. ~rank~Melzer, Street Co~mmissioner, Motion by ~¥illi~ms and McGillivray to confirm,carrie~ The Mayor announced that he would defer action on all other appointments until next meeting. Motion by McGillivray and 01son to adjourn, carried.
