4. SUMMARY STATEMENT AND REQUIREMENT FOR COUNCIL ACTION:
At the beginning of January, 2003, the Kitsap Lake house became vacant. At that time we contacted
several area realtor and rental management firms. One of the rental management representatives even
visited the house. In general, the rental rates for a similar rental unit in the area are between $700 and
$850. As a result of these inquiries, the monthly rental rate was raised by $125.00 to $700.00 a month.
We were interested in insuring that a City employee occupy the house to help keep an eye on the
adjoining park property. Following the City's policy for thc "Selection of Tenants - City Owned
Residential Rental Property" (Financial Policy 1-20-06), the Finance Department advertised thc vacancy
and took the names of interested City employees. On March 18th, Bill Cook's (Bremerton Police
Department) name was drawn from the six City employees who applied.
8. RECOMMENDATION:
Motion to authorize the Mayor to enter into a Rental Agreement for the Kitsap Lake house with Bill
Cook.
