As a tribute to Mr. Mentor's long standing commitment to the City, a group of downtown business people proposed naming the Boardwalk in his honor. This facility, which many view as the vital first step in reviving the City's downtown core, best exemplifies his legacy since he fought for its completion during his term as Mayor in the early 1990's. A subcommittee of the Parks and Recreation Commission was established during the 23 September 2003 Park Commission meeting to determine an appropriate name to honor Mr. Mentor. This subcommittee established the name "Louis Mentor Boardwalk". This name has been approved by the Parks and Recreation Commission and is recommended to the City Council for adoption.
