4. SUMMARY STATEMENT AND REQUIREMENT FOR COUNC~ACTION:
The Department of Public Works and Utilities seeks City Council approval to purchase panel diffusers from Aerostrip
Corporation as an upgrade to the WWTP's existing aeration basin diffuser equipment in the amount of $72,925.26.
This upgrade is needed for the aeration basins due to the existing high power requirements and also the reduced
oxygen transfer capabilities associated with the existing coarse bubble diffusers. Aerostrip Corporation is the only
manufacturer of this type of panel diffuser. Their product meets our specific needs and will keep construction costs
down as existing equipment can be used in the upgrade installation. It is estimated that this purchase can save as much
as $50,000 over the life of the project. Pursuant to'BMC 2.76.600(a)(4), the City is not required to seek competitive
bids when the vendor constitutes a sole or single source for the product.
8. RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council approve the sole-source purchase of diffuser equipment from the Aerostrip Corporation at a cost
of $72,925.26 and authorize the Mayor to execute the contract subject to current City policies and procedures.
