4. SUMMARY STATEMENT AND REQUIREMENT FOR COUNCIL ACTION:
The police community resource division is requesting approval and
authorization to en=er~an agreement with the Bremerton School District 100-C
to receive funds of $38,000. The funds will cover the cost of one police
officer at 504 of the police department budgeted cost for 1) full-time School
Resource Officer; and a part-time School Resource Officer as needed. The
police officers assigned as School Resource Officers will supplement school
security by providing general and specialized police services to the school
district for the 1997-1998 school year. We receive the Bremerton School
District funds as a reimbersment from their grant award from the State of
Washington, for Public School Site Security.
8. RECOMMENDATION:
a. Motion that Council approves agreement between the City and the Bremerton
School District to continue the School Resource Officer Program and
authorize the Mayor to execute same.
2. CLeaRANCE COMMENTS (cont.):
4. SII~MARY STATEMENT (cont.)-:
~MPACT ON NON-PASSAGE:
An extreme burden on the existing police budgeted personnel salary cost
and will alleviate any provision of part-time school resource officer to
assist the one assigned officer. Would severely hamper the availability
of coverage to the school district overall and would restrict the
present officer to the middle and Junior high school.
IMPACT ON STAFPING. BUDGETS. FACILITIES, EOUIPMRNT OR OTHER RESOURCES
Will greatly enhance the availability of the service capability to the
schools and support to the patrol division as not to pull from the beat
officers covering other needs in city.
1997 personnel salary cost will be enhanced to provide overtime and
flexibility of personnel usage for changes in need for additional
coverage at peak periods throughout the school year.
Equipment, training cost are currently accounted for 1997 police budget.
No additional cost impact on existing budgeted categories.
