SUMMARY STATEMENT AND REQUIREMENT FOR COUNCIL ACTION: The submersible dry pit pump for station OB-1 failed and needs to be replaced. A quote fi~om Granich Engineering, Inc., (Exhibit 1) to replace the Yeoman's pump with a Fakbanks-Morse model is tbr $20.900 not including sales tax. After several unsuccessful attempts to remedy the problems associated with the pump's performance, the manufacturer of the failed pmnp has agr~ eed to reimburse the City for the failed pump in the amount of $18,000. Based on performance tests, only two pump rnan~t~rs can meet the performance requirements tbr this station. Pierce County recently received competitive bids for submers~le dry pit pumps for similar applications and found the Fairbanks Morse pump to be the least cost. It is recommended that a sole source emergency purchase be approved for a Model 5" 5436WD, submersible dry pit pump per the attached Quotation (Pump history is contained on the reverse) 8. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council approve the Emergency Purchase of a Fairbanks Morse Model 5" 5436WD. submers~le dry. pit pump for pump station OB-1 from Granich Engineering, Inc., in the amount of $20.900 plus tax. 9. SUMMARY STATEMENT AND REQUIREMENT FOR COUNCIL ACTION (CONT'D) Pump History: 1. Summer of 1999, pump assembly purchased for station OB-1 2. Fall of 1999, there was a premature faikne ofthe pump assembly 3. Early in 2000, the pump manufacturer modified the pump under warranty 4. Summer of 2000, failure ofpump assembly was noted during a maintenance inspection 5. Need to replace pump with reliable pump (Fairbanks Morse) identified to Council. 5. IMPACT ON NON-PASSAGE: Station OB-1 will remain without a submem'ble dry pit pump and in the event ofan overflow, would be unable to contain it. 6. IMPACT ON STAFFING, BUDGETS~ FACILITIES~ EQUIPMENT OR OTHER RESOURCES: None - Although the replacement pump will not be on-ske until close to the end of the year, thc check for the old pump will be here long before that, which means that a budget adjustment is not required. However, a check has to be sent to Granich for the new pump as soon as possl'ble. 7. RESEARCH SOURCES: Before settling on the Fairbanks Morse pump, a Wemco pump assembly was tested and found to be unable to meet the maximum pumping requirements. The Fairbanks Morse pump model to be purchased is currently being used by Pierce Counts Public Utilities and will operate to the maximum requirements. ~,8,/.£i 20Di~ 10:47 ~04i55~55 SREHERTr3N WASTEWATER =~GE D2 AUB-!4-:2~-]~i~ ~: 55 C;RAI-~; CH EHG :NEE~ !?~ ~25Ei~9~3'~8 ~. 01 0~ JOB: REPLACE YEOI~tN~I8 8U~VtERSIBLE DRY PIT PUMP IN ;'.$.
