DIGITAL RECORDING COUNCIL <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES VED <br /> Wednesday, March 5, 2014 <br /> MAR 19 0/� <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, March <br /> 5, 2014 at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT CENTER 345 6th <br /> Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Greg Wheeler presiding. Council Members <br /> present were Eric Younger, Roy Runyon, Dino Davis, Jerry McDonald, Leslie Daugs, and Mike Sullivan. <br /> Also present were City Attorney Roger Lubovich; City Clerk Shannon Corin; and Legislative Assistant <br /> Lori Smith. <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Mike Sullivan followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Pastor Roger Hennigan of Apostolic Life Tabernacle. <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Patty Lent... <br /> • Proclaimed March 12, 2014 as "Robert "Bob" Montgomery Day', and presented the <br /> proclamation to Mr. Montgomery <br /> • Thanked City Parks Maintenance Manager Tom Cressman for his attentive care of Ivy Green <br /> Cemetery, and also the volunteers who place American flags on the headstones of veterans; <br /> • Proclaimed March 2014 as "American Red Cross Month ", and presented the proclamation to <br /> Karen McKay Bevers West Sound Director of the American Red Cross, who accepted on <br /> behalf of all of the American Red Cross volunteers; <br /> • Announced the Grand Opening of the new Hospice of Kitsap County Thrift Shop located at 301 <br /> Pacific Avenue will be on Friday, March 7 at 5:00 PM; <br /> • Proclaimed March 16 to 22, 2014 as "Community Champions for Meals on Wheels WeeK', <br /> and presented the proclamation to Deborah Horn Executive Director of Meals on Wheels <br /> Kitsap, who encouraged everyone to become a "Champion for Meals on Wheels "; <br /> • Was pleased to report in January that the assessed property value of Bremerton increased by <br /> $2- million, and was just as pleased to announce the assessed property value of Bremerton has <br /> increased by another $2- million for February; and <br /> • Encouraged everyone to attend the 23` Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 15 <br /> beginning at 10:00 AM in downtown Bremerton; and to support local businesses. <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Mike Walton Community Marketing Director of the Kitsap Family YMCA, provided an update on the <br /> events and activities at the "Y ", including the next YMCA Resolution Run & Walk on Sunday, April 6 <br /> beginning at 9:00 AM; "Girls on the Run of WestSound" on March 10 & 11; and the annual Spring -Break <br /> Camp beginning the week of March 31. <br /> Theresa Aubin Ahrens of Aubin Ahrens Photography urged the Council to reinstate the $20,000 <br /> funding from the Lodging Tax to Visit Kitsap. <br /> Adam Brockus stated that he too would like to see the $20,000 reinstated to the Visit Kitsap; provided <br /> an update from Olympia on the status of HB2580 to form a Marine Industries Task Force and HB1129 to <br /> fund a 3` 144 -car ferry; and urged citizens to contact their legislatures to urge their support for these two <br /> bills. <br /> Deirdre McKeel agreed that funding should be provided to Visit Kitsap. <br /> Holly James of Kitsap Entrepreneurial Center also urged the Council to reinstate funding to Visit Kitsap. <br />
