DIGITAL RECORDING <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br />Wednesday, June 21, 2017 <br />The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br />June 21, 2017, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKs GOVERNMENT <br />CENTER, 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Acting Council President Dino Davis <br />presiding. Council Members present were Greg Wheeler, Leslie Daugs, and Pat Sullivan. Council <br />President Eric Younger, Council Vice President Jerry McDonald, and Council Member Richard <br />Huddy were absent due to their attendance at the Annual Association of Washington Cities (AWC) <br />Conference in Vancouver, WA. Also present were City Attorney Roger Lubovich; City Clerk <br />Shannon Corin; Legislative Assistant Lori Smith; and Dave Sorenson, Information Services. <br />A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br />Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br />Acting President Davis welcomed the Bremerton High School's "Naval Junior Reserve <br />Officers Training Corps" (NJROTC) Honor Guard to present the flag. <br />The Pledge of Allegiance was then led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the <br />invocation provided by Pastor Clint Collins of First Christian Church. <br />MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Lent... <br />• Proclaimed Saturday, July 1, 2017 as "Honor Guards Day", and presented the <br />proclamation to SNSI: Lt. David Malnar, USN, Ret; <br />• Invited the public to the "Chimacum Community Celebration" on Thursday, June 22 from <br />10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a Ceremony at 1:30 PM at the Bremerton Ferry Terminal; <br />• Encouraged participation in the 24th Annual United Way Day of Caring on Friday, June 23; <br />• Mentioned a Candlelight Vigil in honor and remembrance of the USS Fitzgerald Sailors on <br />Friday, June 23 at 8:00 PM on the Louis Mentor Boardwalk next to the USS Turner Joy; <br />• Proclaimed Saturday, June 24, 2017 as "National Inclusive Play Day'', and encouraged <br />the community to participate in the "So All May Play Date" on Saturday, June 24 from 10:00 <br />AM to 1:00 PM at Evergreen Rotary Park; <br />• Solicited volunteers for the 2017 Summer "Point -In -Time" Count on July 13; <br />• Hoped a host family (with no cats or dogs) can soon be found for a Kure, Japan Exchange <br />Student visiting Bremerton in August; and <br />• Brought forward Patti Peterson of the Kitsap County Food Bank Coalition to present <br />Certificates of Appreciation to USPS Letter Carriers who assisted in the Annual Food Drive. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT BRIEFING Postponed until July 5... <br />PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br />Rick L. Bonari Brain Injury Alliance of Washington-Kitsap County (BIWA) announced the 2017 <br />"Walk, Run, & Roll for Thought — Because Minds Matter" event on Saturday, 9 at Lions Park, <br />encouraging entrants to sign up early and for sponsors to participate; and Diana Bluthenthal read <br />an essay written by Kelley Bluthenthal entitled "Brain Injury. No Hidden Advantage". <br />Jennifer Chamberlin expressed concern about an incident where she said police officers entered <br />her home by mistake when her address was incorrectly provided by a 911 dispatch officer; and <br />said she then only learned it happened when a neighbor told her about it. Therefore she asked the <br />City to adopt a "policy" that would notify homeowners directly when something like this happens. <br />
