DIGITAL RECORDING <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br />April 19, 2017 <br />The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br />April 19, 2017, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT <br />CENTER, 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Eric Younger <br />presiding. Council Members present were Richard Huddy, Greg Wheeler, Jerry McDonald, Leslie <br />Daugs, and Pat Sullivan. Council Member Dino Davis was absent. Also present were City <br />Attorney Roger Lubovich; City Clerk Shannon Corin; Legislative Assistant Lori Smith; and Kevin <br />Matthew, Information Services Manager. <br />A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br />Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br />The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the invocation <br />provided by Jennifer Chamberlin of the American Humanist Society. <br />BREMERT'ON POLICE DEPARTMENT CEREMONY <br />Chief Steve Strachan brought forward Municipal Court Judge James Doctor to administer <br />the Oath of Office to swear in new Police Officers Jason Butler and Sara Felty. <br />MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Patty Lent... <br />• Presented a Mayor's Recognition Award to Parks & Recreation employee Jeff Winden <br />for going above and beyond his duties helping a widow locate a headstone; <br />• Recognized and honored retiring Parks & Recreation employee Virgilio "Billy" Ibarra <br />for his 41 -years of service by presenting him a Key to the City; <br />• Honored student winners from the Washington State Science & Engineering Fair; <br />• Hoped everyone would participate in the Water Conservation Challenge, available <br />through April 30 at www.mvwaterpledge.com; <br />• Looked forward to attending the YWCA Women of Achievement Luncheon on Friday, <br />April 21 from 5:30 to 9:00 AM at Kiana Lodge in Poulsbo; <br />• Announced Kids' Fishing Day sponsored by the Poggie Club on Saturday, April 22 from <br />8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 4398 West Belfair Valley Road near Jarstad Park; <br />• Invited the community to Opening Day of the Farmers Market scheduled on Thursday, <br />May 4 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Evergreen Rotary Park; <br />• Encouraged the community to please donate generously during the Annual "Kitsap <br />Great Give" on Tuesday, May 2; and <br />• Brought forward Bremerton City Clerk Shannon Corin and Kitsap Transit Clerk of the <br />Board Jill Boltz to present a donation on behalf of the Washington State Municipal <br />Clerks Association to Dave Frederick, Executive Director for Coffee Oasis, in <br />recognition of their work done in the community helping homeless youth; and also <br />announced a 20 -year anniversary celebration at the Poulsbo Community Church on <br />Saturday, April 28. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT BRIEFING <br />Police Chief Steven Strachan used a Power Point presentation to highlight trends, statistics, <br />and police activity for the -Months of March through early April. Comments and questions were <br />provided by Younger, Daugs, and Huddy; with responses provided by Chief Strachan... <br />
