DIGITAL RECORDING � <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES ,1UiV � 3 ZO1� <br /> Wednesday, May 20, 2015 <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br /> May 20, 2015, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NoRM DicKs GovERrvnnENT <br /> CENTER, 345 6`h Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Greg Wheeler presiding. <br /> Council Members present were Eric Younger, Roy Runyon, Dino Davis, Jerry McDonald, Leslie <br /> Daugs, and Mike Sullivan. Also present were City Attorney Roger Lubovich; Legislative <br /> Assistant/Deputy City Clerk Lori Smith; and Information Services Manager Kevin Matthew. <br /> A CouNci�BRiEFiNG was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Mike Sullivan followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Reverend David Malcom, Jr. of Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church. <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT —Mayor Patty Lent... <br /> � Proclaimed May 23 through 25, 2015 as "Spirit of'45—Honoring Our WWII Veterans <br /> Days"; and urged residents to join in the special observance on Sunday, May 24 beginning at <br /> 8:00 PM at Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home; <br /> � Encouraged families interested in hosting an exchange student from Bremerton's Sister City <br /> Kure, Japan from July 24 through August 20 to contact Elaine Valencia at (360) 473-5266; <br /> • Stated that although a proclamation was not received on time, she acknowledged that May 18 <br /> through 25 is recognized as "Hip Hop Appreciation Week'; <br /> • Proclaimed May 25, 2015 in observance of "Memorial Day"; and asked that the community <br /> remember the fallen who had fought and died for our country; <br /> • Announced that the Annual Kitsap Harbor Festival will be this weekend on May 23 & 24 with <br /> activities in both downtown Bremerton and at the Port Orchard Marina; and <br /> • Was pleased the project has been completed to list the name of every Veteran of Foreign <br /> Wars from Kitsap County who was killed in action during the Viet Nam War will now be listed <br /> on the War Veteran's Memorial at Evergreen Rotary Park. <br /> BPD BRIEFING <br /> Police Captain Tom Wolfe provided a monthly update on police operations. Questions were <br /> asked by Runyon and Wheeler, with responses provided by Captain Wolfe... <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> 206 Zulu, Local Chapter representative, thanked the City of Bremerton Council Members and <br /> Mayor for recognizing "Hip Hop Appreciation Week" and noted the 2015 Theme was "Character". <br /> Bob Abel, Olympic College Physics Professor, was pleased to announce that he will be bringing <br /> about 300 astronomers to the City of Bremerton as the host City for the Annual Astronomy <br /> Meeting from August 16 to 22; with evening events planned at Bremerton Seefilm Theater and the <br /> Planetarium; and daytime activity at Kiwanis soccer field. Several Council Members provided <br /> comments and suggestions;and thanked Mr. Abel for bringing this event to Bremerton... <br /> Shawn Gever expressed concern that he could not obtain police reports for a case that he would <br /> like to move forward on. Mayor Lent provided Mr. Geyer with a business card so that he can <br /> contact her directly for assistance with hrs rssue... <br />
