cou <br /> DIGITAL RECORDING 0 <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES JUN 0 5 2013 <br /> Wednesday, May 15, 2013 <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br /> May 15, 2013, at 5:00 PM in the Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DIcKs GOVERNMENT <br /> CENTER, 345 6"' Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Greg Wheeler presiding. <br /> Council Members present were Nick Wofford, Eric Younger, Carol Arends, Faye Flemister, Wendy <br /> Priest, Adam Brockus, and Jim McDonald. Council Member Leslie Daugs was absent. Also <br /> present were City Attorney Roger Lubovich; City Clerk Shannon Corin; Legislative Assistant Lori <br /> Smith; and Information Services Manager Kevin Matthew. <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Jim McDonald followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Chaplain Bill Martin of Abundant Life Foursquare Church. <br /> Police Chief Steve Strachan introduced new Police Officers Beau Avers, Joe Corey and <br /> Christopher Faidley followed by the "Oath of Office Swearing -In Ceremony" led by Municipal <br /> Court Jud-ge James Docter <br /> Police Chief Strachan provided a monthly briefing on the Bremerton Police Department; and also <br /> displayed the Bremerton Police Department link from the City's website that provided citizens with <br /> information on how to report concerns anonymously. <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Patty Lent .. <br /> • Proclaimed May 18, 2013 as "National Kids to Parks Day ", <br /> • Proclaimed May 27, 2013 as "Memorial Day Observance ", <br /> • Recognized Stanley Westerback for constructing and installing an Information Kiosk at <br /> Evergreen Rotary Park as part of his Eagle Scout community project requirement; <br /> • Presented the plaque received by the City in honor of being recognized for fulfilling the Mayor's <br /> Conservation Pledge towards Water Conservation; <br /> • Recognized WSU Master Gardner Robbin Small for his efforts as Blueberry Park Pea Patch <br /> Community Garden Coordinator from 2009 through 2012; <br /> • Invited the public to the "Bremerton EMS Community Safety Event" to be held on Sunday, May <br /> 19 from 10.00 AM to 2:00 PM at Fire Station No. 1 at 911 Park Avenue; <br /> • Encouraged everyone to loin in the activities scheduled as part of the Armed Forces Festival <br /> this weekend and the Kitsap Harbor Festival the following weekend; and <br /> • Provided an update on the Louis Mentor Boardwalk and Bremerton Manna. <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Mike Walton Director of Community Marketing from Kitsap Family YMCA, provided a briefing on <br /> the activities and classes available at the °Y" for the Month of May. <br /> Robert Parker asked the City to pay more attention to the quality of materials used for local <br /> construction projects because of flaws he has already noticed in recently completed projects. <br /> Jerry McDonald would like to see Bremerton join "Seattle Wide Reach" due to their many <br /> connections across the world, and discussed his latest concierge tour scheduled Thursday. <br /> CONSENT AGENDA <br /> 7A— Claims & Check Register Check Numbers 353403 through 353626 and EFT -12810 <br />
