DIGITAL RECORDING <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br />Wednesday, October 18, 2017 <br />The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br />October 18, 2017, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT <br />CENTER, 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Eric Younger <br />presiding. Council Members present were Richard Huddy, Dino Davis, Greg Wheeler, Jerry <br />McDonald, Leslie Daugs, and Pat Sullivan. Also present were City Attorney Roger Lubovich; City <br />Clerk Shannon Corin; Council Assistant Christine Grenier; and Kevin Matthew, Information <br />Services Manager. <br />A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br />Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br />The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the Invocation <br />provided by Pastor Eric Roberts of Discovery Fellowship. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT SWEARING-IN CEREMONY <br />Captain James Burchett brought forward Municipal Court Judge James Doctor to <br />administer the Oath of Office for new Police Officer Samantha Ortona. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT SWEARING-IN CEREMONY <br />Chief David Schmitt brought forward Municipal Court Judge James Doctor to administer the <br />Oath of Office for new Fire Fighters Carlo Celeste; Orlando Diaz; Spencer Erwin; Cody <br />Hoefs; and Chris Ritter. <br />MAYOR'S REPORT <br />• Chal Martin, Public Works & Utilities Director, commended Chance Berthiaume, Water <br />Resources, who was awarded a Certificate in Professional & Municipal Stormwater <br />Management noting that there only 391 people in the world who have earned this <br />certification; <br />• Holly Peterson of the Bremerton Senior Center, encouraged people to attend the 45th <br />Annual Senior Craft Fair on Friday, October 20 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and on Saturday, <br />October 21 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Sheridan Park Community Center; <br />• It was announced that the Lebo Boulevard Project is now complete; <br />• October 20, 2017 was proclaimed as "Community Media Day'; with the proclamations <br />presented to Charleen Burnette, Public Access Manager; Milenka Hawkins -Bates, BKAT <br />Advisory Committee; and Sheldon Parr, West Sound Community Television; <br />• The community was encouraged to attend the Peninsula Fruit Club's Fall Fruit Show on <br />Thursday, October 28 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the West Side Improvement Club; and <br />• In recognition of Cancer Awareness for the Month of October, the Haselwood Auto Group <br />held "Drive for a Cause" to raise funds for cancer research at Fred Hutch Hospital; and the <br />City's Police and Fire are wearing pink'on their uniforms. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT BRIEFING <br />Captain James Burchett outlined statistics from September to early October; and briefed the <br />Council on "Operation Net Nanny". Comments were provided by Daugs and Huddy... <br />President Younger added a special announcement to caution anyone planning to speak during <br />Public Recognition that during the election period, beginning now through the November <br />General Election, that they are prohibited from commenting on any candidate or ballot issues... <br />
