DIGITAL RECORDING <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br />I. <br />Wednesday, Qctober 4, 2017 <br />The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br />October 4, 2017, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT <br />CENTER, 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Eric Younger <br />presiding. Council Members present were Richard Huddy, Dino Davis, Greg Wheeler, Leslie <br />Daugs, and Pat Sullivan. Council Vice President Jerry McDonald was absent. Also present were <br />Assistant City Attorney Kylie Purves; City Clerk Shannon Corin; Legislative Assistant Lori Smith; <br />and Kevin Matthew, Information Services Manager. <br />A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br />Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br />The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the Invocation <br />provided by Fire Department Chaplain Bill Martin. <br />MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Lent. <br />• Brought forward Director of Public Works & Utilities Chal Martin to introduce Forestry <br />Service Supervisor Ken Donleycott to receive a Certification of Appreciation on behalf <br />of the City of Bremerton from the Washington State Departments of Natural Resources, <br />Ecology, and Fish & Wildlife for a "timely completion of Road Maintenance and <br />Abandonment Plans and the commitment to meeting water quality standards and fish <br />passage requirements on forest roads... "; <br />• Brought forward Recreational Program Coordinator Cynthia Engelgau of the Parks <br />Department to introduce Arts Commission Chair Garrett Nobbs; Arts Commission <br />Member Deborah Woolston; Olympic College Art Department Faculty Members Marie <br />Weichman and Michael Laughlin; and Executive Director of the Olympic College <br />Foundation David Emmons to talk about the unique partnership that allowed Olympic <br />College students Gretchen Lund and Lisa Jet-Yeng Zhu to submit art that was <br />selected for two Utility Cabinet Wrap Art Projects; and also to receive the Mayor's <br />Citizen Recognition Award for their efforts; <br />• Encouraged the community to view the art gallery placed on the new Washington State <br />Ferry "Chimacum" featuring 16 pieces of contemporary art work of local artists selected <br />by the Arts Commission; <br />• Congratulated longtime Parks & Recreation employee Virgilio Ibarra and Maintenance <br />Supervisor Tom Cressman on their recent retirements; and brought forward several <br />Parks Department staff members including Steve Mutek, Steve Munson, Jeff Winden, <br />Dave Coleman, Juanita Talavera, Anna Thomas, Francisco Dominguez, Mike Kelly, <br />Scott Ferido, and Reynaldo Circulado to thank them for all their hard work this past <br />summer; and also led them in a chorus of Happy Birthday in honor of Parks & <br />Recreation Director Jeff Elevado; <br />• Acknowledged the brand new sign provided by Signworks at the YMCA that displays the <br />Bremerton High School swim records; <br />• Invited the community to the Aqua -Fair on Saturday, October 7 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 <br />PM at Otto Jarstad Park; <br />• Thanked Abraham's House for all their work in the community, announced their new <br />location at 335 Wycoff Avenue; and was looking forward to the retail store opening soon; <br />
