DIGITAL RECORDING <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br />Wednesday, September 20, 2017 <br />The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br />September 20, 2017, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT <br />CENTER, 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Eric Younger <br />presiding. Council Members present were Richard Huddy, Dino Davis, Greg Wheeler, Jerry McDonald, <br />and Pat Sullivan. Council Member Leslie Daugs was absent. Also present were City Attorney Roger <br />Lubovich; City Clerk Shannon Corin; Legislative Assistant Lori Smith; and Kevin Matthew, Information <br />Services Manager. <br />A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br />Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br />The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the Invocation <br />provided by Pastor Roger Hennigan of Apostolic Life Tabernacle. <br />MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Lent announced the following... <br />• Diaper Need Awareness Week was proclaimed from September 25 to October 1, which <br />was accepted by Ashley Hutchison of Eastside Baby Corner - West Sound; <br />• Bremerton Farmers Market New Fall Hours will be from 3:30 to 6:30 PM; <br />• The 32nd Annual Kitsap County Leadership Prayer Breakfast will be on Thursday, September, <br />21 from 6:30 to 8:30 AM at the Kitsap Golf & Country Club; <br />• Sinclair Inlet Clean -Up will be on Saturday, September 23 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM; <br />• Kitsap Humane Society's Annual "Animal Krackers" Dinner & Gala will be on Saturday, <br />September 23 from 5:00 to 10:00 PM at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino; <br />• Kitsap Grown will host the 9th Annual Harvest Dinner "Going with the Grain" on Sunday, <br />September 24 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the Olympic College Student Center; and <br />• Bremerton Chamber of Commerce will host a Shredding Event on Saturday, September 30 <br />from 9:00 AM to 1'00 PM in the Olympic College Parking Lot G-1. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT BRIEFING <br />Police Chief Steve Strachan used a Power Point presentation to highlight trends, statistics, and <br />police activity for the Months of August through early September. <br />PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br />Tomache Vargas explained the Sacrifice of Service Award was created and named in honor of his <br />friend Petty Officer Second Class Brian Moss who was killed while on duty when American Airlines <br />Flight 77 was high jacked and crashed into the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. The 2nd Annual <br />Sacrifice of Service program was held last Sunday, September 10 where it was decided that this <br />year's Sacrifice of Service Award would be presented to Mayor Patty Lent, in recognition of her <br />service to the community, being a friend to the community, and for helping to get the SOS program off <br />the ground.
