DIGITAL RECORDING <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br />Wednesday, August 2, 201,7 <br />The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br />August 2, 2017, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT <br />CENTER, 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Eric Younger <br />presiding. Council Members present were Richard Huddy, Greg Wheeler, Jerry McDonald, Leslie <br />Daugs, and Pat Sullivan. Council Member Dino Davis was absent. Also present were City Attorney <br />Roger Lubovich; City Clerk Shannon Corin; Legislative Assistant Lori Smith; and Kevin Matthew, <br />Information Services Manager. <br />A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br />Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br />The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the Invocation <br />provided by Pastor Richmond Johnson of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. <br />POLICE "OATH OF OFFICE" CEREMONY <br />Chief Steve Strachan brought forward Municipal Court Judge James Doctor to administer the <br />Oath of Office to promote Police Officer Matthew Strombach to Corporal. <br />MAYOR'S REPORT - Mayor Lent announced the following <br />• Brought forward Lon Howard with the Bremerton Central Lions Club to introduce <br />Minon Shimooka, Kanon Yamane, and Nonoka Fuiita, the three exchange students from <br />Kure, Japan who will be visiting Bremerton for the next four weeks; <br />• Presented a Mayor's Appreciation Award to Jeannie Vaughn, the City's Building Official, who <br />will be retiring this month; <br />• A Special Notice listing places to stay cool has been issued by the Kitsap Health District; <br />• The 2017 Pacific Northwest Interclub Skating Championships would be held at the Bremerton <br />Ice Center from Friday, August 4 through Sunday, August 6; <br />• 2017 Summerfest sponsored by SEEfilm Cinemas has issued their schedule of movies; <br />• A Public Works Community Meeting to discuss current and future roadway and pedestrian <br />improvement projects at "Kitsap Way & Harlow Drive" will be held on Thursday, August 3 from <br />5:00 to 6:30 PM at the Oyster Bay Public Works Building; <br />• The "100 Years of Bremerton Water Service" Exhibit will be at the Kitsap Historic Museum <br />through September; and is free during First Friday Artwalks in August and September; <br />• A Free "Solar Eclipse Viewing Training" is being hosted by the Kitsap Conference Center on <br />Wednesday, August 9 at 6:00 PM; <br />• "Farm Funk - Celebrating Local Farms, Brews, & Music will be on Saturday, August 12 from <br />1:00 to 10:00 PM at Minder Farms; <br />0 "Pirates of the Caribbean" will be the last Free Summer Movie at the Manette Playfield on <br />Friday, August 18 at dusk; <br />• The first in a series of Substitute Teacher Orientations will be held on August 28 & 29; <br />• As of July 29, 2017, area codes + the 7 -digit telephone number will be required; and <br />Brought forward Parks & Recreation Director Jeff Elevado and Parks Preservationist & <br />Development Manager Colette Berna to introduce a group of supporters for the Manette <br />Playfield Project Pastor Eric Roberts, Adam Brockus, David & Terry Hedger, Craig & <br />Ezekiel Houston, Patrick Watson, and Pastor Ron Anderson who presented a $93,000 <br />check to match $925,000 in grants for use toward completing the project. <br />
