DIGITAL RECORDING <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br />Wednesday, July 5, 2017 <br />The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br />July 5, 2017, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT CENTER, <br />345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Eric Younger presiding. Council <br />Members present were Richard Huddy, Dino Davis, Greg Wheeler, Jerry McDonald, Leslie Daugs, <br />and Pat Sullivan. Also present were City Attorney Roger Lubovich; City Clerk Shannon Corin; <br />Legislative Assistant Lori Smith; and Dave Sorenson, Information Services. <br />A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br />Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br />The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the Invocation <br />provided by Pastor Eric Roberts of Discovery Fellowship. <br />MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Lent announced the following... <br />• Was pleased to report that the revenues received from permits for the Month of June were <br />double the amount received from the Month of May; <br />• Proclaimed the Month of July 2017 as "Parks & Recreation Month", and invited Cynthia <br />Engelgau, Holly Peterson, and Scott Evans from the Parks & Recreation Department to <br />receive the proclamation and announce upcoming events including Fun at the Playgrounds <br />through August 4 at Blueberry Park, Kiwanis Park, and the Manette Playfield; the West Sound <br />Senior Games from July 12 to 15; and a variety of on-going athletic leagues; <br />• Brought forward Parks & Recreation Director Jeff Elevado and Public Works & Utilities <br />Director Chal Martin to display the Municipal Excellence Award that was presented to the City <br />of Bremerton at the AWC Annual Conference for work done at Lillian A. & James Walker Park; <br />• Brought forward Kathleen Cahall, Water Resources Manager to display the 2017 Exemplary <br />Source Water Protection Award for a Medium System that was presented to the City of <br />Bremerton's Public Works & UtilitiesDepartment by the American Water Works Association; <br />• Shared the schedules for Rock the Dock and Music in Manette Summer Concert Series; <br />• Encouraged attendance at the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Walk & Family Fun Fair" that will be <br />held on Saturday, July 8 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Evergreen Rotary Park; <br />• Community volunteers are needed for the 2017 Summer "Point in Time" Homeless Count; <br />• The Kitsap Chordsmen will be performing "Scandimania" on Saturday, July 15 at 2:00 and 7:00 <br />PM in the North Kitsap Auditorium located at 1881 NE Hostmark in Poulsbo; and <br />• A local family (with no cats or dogs due to her allergies) is still needed to host "Kanon", a 17 - <br />year old exchange student from the City of Bremerton's Sister City Kure, Japan for 4 -weeks <br />from July 24 to August 20, and to please contact the Mayor's Office at (360) 473-5266 if <br />interested. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT BRIEFING <br />Fire Chief David Schmitt reported on fireworks -related issues and statistics from over the 4th of <br />July weekend; and then introduced Captain Brian Marceau, Lieutenant Brian Junkin, Captain <br />Dan Mustard, Lieutenant Craig Patti, and Training Battalion Chief John Payne. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT BRIEFING <br />Police Chief Steve Strachan used a Power Point presentation to highlight trends, statistics, and <br />police activity for the Months of June through early July; and brought forward Police Officer Chris <br />Faidley who introduced new K-9 Officer Esco. <br />
