DIGITAL RECORDING <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br /> Wednesday, April 5, 2017 <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br /> April 5, 2017, at 5:02 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT CENTER, <br /> 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Eric Younger presiding. Council <br /> Members present were Richard Huddy, Dino Davis, Greg Wheeler, Jerry McDonald, and Pat <br /> Sullivan. Council Member Leslie Daugs was absent. Also present were City Attorney Roger <br /> Lubovich; City Clerk Shannon Corin; Legislative Assistant Lori Smith; and Kevin Matthew, <br /> Information Services Manager. <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the Invocation <br /> provided by Major Scott Ramsey of Salvation Army. <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT— Mayor Lent announced the following... <br /> • Presented a Mayor's Merit Award to Bill Davis, Civil Engineer for Public Works & Utilities; <br /> • Presented a Mayor's Merit Award to Chance Berthiaume, Water Resources Department; <br /> • Proclaimed the Month of April 2017 as Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month which <br /> was accepted by Vivian Henderson; <br /> • The Mayor's Water Pledge can be taken through April 30 at www.mywaterpledge.com; <br /> • Grand Opening for Museum Exhibit "100 Years of Bremerton Water Service" during the <br /> First Friday Artwalk from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kitsap Historical Museum on 4th Street; <br /> • Proclaimed April 7, 2017 as Bremerton's 100th Anniversary of Water Service Day, <br /> which was accepted by Kathleen Cahall, Water Resources Manager; <br /> • The National Recreation & Parks Association will be accepting nominations until April 30 for <br /> the "Meet Me at the Park' $20,000 grant at www.meetmeatthepark.com; <br /> • Artwork from high school students grades 9 through 12 will be accepted until April 10 for the <br /> Washington State Ferries Summer Schedule Cover Contest; <br /> • Proclaimed April 12, 2017 as Celebration of Arbor Day; which was accepted by Jeff <br /> Elevado, Director of Parks & Recreation; who announced the Annual Arbor Day <br /> Celebration & Tree Planting on Wednesday, April 12 at 10:30 AM at Blueberry Park; <br /> • Gold Mountain Golf Course will be hosting an Easter Brunch on Sunday, April 16; <br /> • Sinclair Inlet Clean-Up on Saturday, April 29 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM; <br /> • International Military Band Concert on Saturday, April 29 at 7:00 PM in the Bremerton High <br /> School Auditorium; and <br /> • Commended Interim Fire Chief Pat McGanney and the Bremerton Fire Department for <br /> participating in The Big Climb to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of <br /> fallen Fire Fighter James "Jimmy" Hendryx. <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Paul D. DuFresne, Treasurer for the Bremerton Symphony Association, presented the latest <br /> pamphlet, and announced that this will be the 75th Anniversary Season for the Symphony. <br /> Mike Walton, of the Bremerton YMCA, announced activities and events taking place at the "Y". <br /> James Kinnison, President of the Peninsula Council of the Blind, requested a crosswalk off of <br /> Halvorson; and expressed concerned that the audio warning beeps at the crosswalk at Wheaton <br /> Way & Sylvan are not loud enough. Lastly, he encouraged attendance at the first ever "Beep <br /> Baseball game" in Bremerton where [blindfolded] Bremerton Police Officers are challenging the <br /> Seattle South King Sluggers on Saturday, June 3 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Lions Field. <br />
