DIGITAL RECORDING <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES � <br /> Wednesday, August 17, 2016 <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br /> August 17, 2016, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NoRnn D�cKs GovERtvnnENT <br /> CENTER, 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Eric Younger presiding. <br /> Council Members present were Richard Huddy, Dino Davis, Greg Wheeler, Jerry McDonald, Leslie <br /> Daugs, and Pat Sullivan. Also present were City Attorney Roger Lubovich; City Clerk Shannon <br /> Corin; Legislative Assistant Lori Smith; and Kevin Matthew, Information Services Manager. <br /> A CouNC��BR�EF�NG was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Reverend Paul Meeker of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT <br /> • Proclaimed the Month of September as Recovery Month; <br /> • Announced the Remembrance Ceremony at the Kitsap 9-1-1 Memorial on Sunday, <br /> September 11 at 5:30 PM at Evergreen Rotary Park; <br /> • Proclaimed Sunday, Sepfember 11, 2016 as Sacrifice of Service for the Saving of Souls <br /> Day; <br /> • Announced the 15'Annual Sacrifice of Service for the Saving of Souls "SOS" 9-1-1 Event on <br /> September 11 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Evergreen Rotary Park; <br /> • Displayed the top 3 winning posters selected in a contest to help prevent youth suicide, and if <br /> anyone is battling depression or feeling hopeless, there is help available through the Suicide <br /> Prevention Lifeline at www.SuicidePreventionLifeline.orq or by contacting (800) 273-8255; <br /> • "Walk, Run, & Roll for Thought - because your Mind Matters" will be held to bring awareness <br /> to preventing brain injuries on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Lions Park with check in at <br /> Noon, and to please contact www.biawa.orq for more information; <br /> • Was proud of the accomplishments of Bremerton-raised Nathan Adrian at the 2016 Summer <br /> Olympics and discussed tentative plans to honor him; <br /> I • Invited Fire Chief AI Duke to present an Above & Beyond Award to Nicholas Penderqast <br /> of the PSNS Fire Department for his bravery and assistance in saving a 70-year old woman <br /> who jumped from a 3�d floor deck when her apartment building at 321 Wycoff Avenue was <br /> engulfed in flames on July 16, 2016. <br /> POLICE DEPARTMENT BRIEFING <br /> Police Chief Steven Strachan used a Power Point presentation to highlight trends, statistics, and <br /> police activity for the Month of July and early August; and announced the "Community Unity Picnic— <br /> Let's Be True to the Black & B/ue" would be held on Sunday, August 21, 2016 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM <br /> at Evergreen Rotary Park. <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Terrv Fessner referred to e-mails he's provided to the Council Members to express his concern <br /> about security issues in downtown; and how the approach by different local service agencies can <br /> either work or not work, and believes the Salvation Army needs to review their business plan. <br />
