DIGITAL RECORDING <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETlNG MINUTES <br /> Wednesday, August 3, 2016 <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order <br /> Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NoRnn DicKs <br /> GOVERNMENT CENTER, 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council Vice President Dino <br /> Davis presiding. Council Members present were Richard Huddy, Greg Wheeler, Jerry <br /> McDonald, Leslie Daugs, and Pat Sullivan. Council President Eric Younger was absent. Also <br /> present were City Attorney Roger Lubovich; City Clerk Shannon Corin; Legislative Assistant Lori <br /> Smith; and Kevin Matthew, Information Services Manager. <br /> A CouNci�BRiEFitv� was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Pat Sullivan followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Reverend David Stewart of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT— Mayor Patty Lent... <br /> • Fire Chief AI Duke provided a briefing on the 6-unit apartment fire that took place on <br /> Wycoff Avenue July 16, and then presented a Mayor's "Above and Beyond" <br /> Recognition Award to Bremerton Police Officers J.D. Miller and Kellv Meade (who <br /> along with Navy Region Northwest firefighter Nick Pendergrass, who lives across the <br /> street), broke the fall of a 77-year-old woman who then only suffered a minor leg injury <br /> after dropping about 20 feet from her deck to escape the flames; <br /> • Bremerton Central Lions President Lon Howard discussed the Kure, Japan Sister City <br /> Exchange Student Program, thanked Program Coordinator Elaine Valencia and host <br /> families Andrea & Levi Ernst, Angie & Jay Harris, Melinda & David Manning, and Sara & <br /> Mark Leshley; and introduced 2016 exchange students Ami Koso, Yuko Nishipochi, <br /> and Saika Sasaki; <br /> • Manager Audrev Walter; Assistant Manager Rhoda Pollard; and Vice President of <br /> Operations Cassie Didericksen (Seattle) from Pacific Fabrics located at 4214 Wheaton <br /> Way discussed how they've enjoyed being a part of the community for many years; <br /> • West Sound Free Clinic provides free health care every 3�a Wednesday from 3:30 to <br /> 6:00 PM at the Salvation Army's Hygiene Center at 832 6th Street; <br /> • The Salad Shack will be hosting its Grand Opening on Saturday, August 6 from 11:00 <br /> AM to 7:00 PM at 722 Lebo Boulevard; <br /> • Farm Funk will host a concert on Saturday, August 20 from 2:00 to 10:00 PM at Minder <br /> Farms to benefit the Kitsap Community Food Co-Op; <br /> • MotoWest MX event will be on August 6 through 7 off Highway 3 & Bree Drive; <br /> • Noxious Weed Workshop hosted by the Kitsap Community and Agricultural Alliance <br /> (KCAA) on Sunday, August 21 from 12:00 to 3:00 PM in the Meeting Chambers; <br /> • 1St Annual Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Fly-in will have several events <br /> from August 19 through 20 at the Bremerton National Airport; <br /> • Free smoke alarms donated by the Red Cross will be available to Bremerton <br /> homeowners by visiting the City's website at www.BremertonWA.gov/smokealarms; <br /> • One of the 2016 Best Places for First Responders included the City of Bremerton; and <br /> • Was proud that Bremerton's Nathan Adrian is officially on the US Olympics Swim Team. <br />
