DIGITAL RECORDING COUNCIL <br /> RO <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES APR 0 , 1015 <br /> Wednesday, March 18, 2015 <br /> A Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order on Wednesday, <br /> March 18, 2015, at 5:00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT <br /> CENTER, 345 6th Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Greg Wheeler <br /> presiding. Council Members present were Eric Younger, Roy Runyon, Dino Davis, Jerry <br /> McDonald, and Mike Sullivan. Council Member Leslie Daugs was absent. Also present were City <br /> Attorney Roger Lubovich; Legislative Assistant/Deputy City Clerk Lori Smith; and Kevin Matthew, <br /> Information Services Manager. <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5:00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room. At 5:30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers. <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Mike Sullivan followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Associate Pastor Russ Reuther of Sylvan Way Baptist Church. <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT <br /> • Brought forward Public Works Director Chal Martin who recognized Public Works <br /> Administration Manager Milenka Hawkins-Bates for receiving a Certificate of Completion <br /> on Managing Urban Forests; and also showed photos that reflected the beauty of the City; <br /> • Due to the efforts of Legislative Assistant Lori Smith, the City of Bremerton received a <br /> certificate in recognition as a "Waste Wise @ Work" Employer; <br /> • Mentioned that Goodwill's schedule of free classes and training was now available; <br /> • Announced that Puget Sound Energy will be offering low cost LED's through its Lighting <br /> Program today and tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the First Floor Lobby; <br /> • Encouraged the community to visit the Valentinetti Puppet Museum at 247 4th Street or a <br /> puppet show on Saturday, March 21 beginning at 2:00 PM at Olympic College as part of the <br /> "National Day of Puppetry"; <br /> • Hoped Pre-Kindergarten through 5th Grade Students would participate in the "Annual Math <br /> Blast & Family Dinner" to be held on Thursday, March 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Armin <br /> Jahr Elementary School located at 800 Dibb Street; <br /> • Looked forward to the 58th Annual Washington State Science & Engineering Fair (WSSEF) <br /> to be held from Friday, March 27 through Saturday, March 28 at Bremerton High School; <br /> • Announced that "Military Appreciation Day" will be on Saturday, March 28 from 11:00 AM to <br /> 4:00 PM at the Kitsap Sun Pavilion at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds; <br /> • Encouraged people to make their reservations early for the Easter Brunch & Egg Hunt on <br /> Sunday, April 5 at Gold Mountain Golf Course; <br /> • Welcomed families interested in hosting a Japanese Exchange Student from July 24 <br /> through August 20 to contact Sister City Program Coordinator Elaine Valencia at (360) 473- <br /> 5266 for more information; <br /> • Had a chance to meet with Senator Maria Cantwell while in Washington DC last week for <br /> the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Conference; and <br /> • Also while in Washington DC, she had a chance to see the Naval Reserve Memorial, which <br /> she was proud to say reflected our own Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton. <br /> BPD BRIEFING <br /> Police Chief Steve Strachan provided a monthly update on police operations. Questions were <br /> asked by Runyon and Wheeler, with responses provided by Chief Strachan... <br />
