DIGITAL RECORDING COUNCIL <br /> APPROVED <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES DEC 0 5 2012 <br /> Wednesday, November 7, 2012 <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order Wednesday, <br /> November 7, 2012, at 5 00 PM in Council Conference Room 603 of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT <br /> CENTER, 345 6" Street, Bremerton, Washington, with Council President Jim McDonald presiding <br /> Council Members present were Nick Wofford, Eric Younger, Carol Arends, Faye Flemister, Greg <br /> Wheeler, Roy Runyon, Adam Brockus, and Leslie Daugs Also present were Assistant City Attorney <br /> Mark Koontz, City Clerk Shannon Conn, and Legislative Assistant Lori Smith <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was held to discuss General Council Business at 5 00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room At 5 30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Leslie Daugs followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Reverend Michael Walter of Kitsap Unitarian Universalist Fellowship <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Mike Walton Marketing Director of the Kitsap Family YMCA, provided an update on the status of the <br /> construction project and also reported on the activities and upcoming events at the "Y" <br /> Jerry McDonald invited the community to hear motivational speaker Roger Brooks present "Making <br /> Bremerton and Port Orchard a Destination' on Monday, November 26 from 6 00 to 8 00 PM at <br /> SeeFilm Cinema He will accept any donations toward the $2,000 00 cost <br /> Larry Meyers referred to the current rate study in progress, and asked if the City would consider not <br /> charging the higher sewer rates in the summertime for the water that is going on the lawns because <br /> he was concerned about all the unsightly brown grass during the summer Chal Martin confirmed <br /> that a water meter is at every service location, and that the sewer rates are based on the average <br /> water consumption during the 6 -month period during winter months (Oct/Nov /Dec and Jan /Feb /Mar) <br /> but sewer rates are not charged for additional water used during the summer <br /> Robert Parker expressed support for the City's LEAN Graffiti program currently being used in the <br /> Charleston area, and hopes the program will expand to other areas of the City <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT <br /> • Introduced Bremerton High School Football Coach Nate Gilliam along with several senior football <br /> players, and encouraged the community to support their first trip to the State Playoffs in 19 years <br /> this Friday, November 9 at 7 00 PM at the Silverdale Stadium, <br /> • Announced a series of events from November 13 to 17 to promote "Re -Power Bremerton Week' <br /> including a service project with Habitat for Humanity at Bay Vista from November 15 at 8 30 AM to <br /> Saturday, November 17 at 2 30 PM, and with Puget Sound Energy for the "Re- Energize Your <br /> Lighting Evenf on Tuesday, November 13 from 8 00 AM to 5 00 PM and on Wednesday, <br /> November 14 from 9 00 AM to 7 00 PM in the Meeting Chambers, <br /> • Invited Bremerton High School DECA students who organize the annual Thanksgiving Outreach <br /> Dinner that will be served for those in need at the Sons of Norway Hall on Tuesday, November <br /> 20 beginning at 10 00 AM until the food is gone (approx 5 00 PM), <br /> • Proclaimed the Month of November 2012 as "Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month ", and <br /> invited Joan Mabut with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to accept the proclamation as well <br /> as discuss the importance of educating our legislatures to support pancreas cancer research <br /> • Invited Sara Meagher Board President and Julia Zander Market Manager for the Bremerton <br /> Farmers Market to provide an overview of the 2012 season, and also to announce the "Holiday <br /> Market" event on Sunday, November 18 from Noon to 4 00 PM here in the Meeting Chambers, <br />
