AUG 0 3 2011 <br /> DIGITAL RECORDING <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br /> July 20, 2011 <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order in the City <br /> Council Conference Room 603, of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT CENTER, 345 6 th Street, Bremerton, <br /> Washington, Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at 5 00 PM, with Council President Will Maupin presiding <br /> Council Members present were Nick Wofford, Carol Arends, Dianne Robinson, Greg Wheeler, Roy <br /> Runyon, Adam Brockus, Cecil McConnell, and Jim McDonald City Attorney Roger Lubovich, City <br /> Clerk Carol Etgen, and Legislative Assistant Lori Smith were present to provide staff support <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was then held to discuss General Council Business at 5 00 PM in the Council <br /> Conference Room At 5 30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Jim McDonald followed by the invocation <br /> provided by Reverend Paul Meeker of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Lent <br /> • Presented a Mayor's Appreciation Award to 13 year old Justice Heagy for successfully <br /> taking control of a vehicle and guiding it to safety when her mom had a seizure while driving <br /> over the Warren Avenue Bridge, Fire Chief Al Duke added that it was amazing that Justice <br /> had the wisdom and calmness to react so well under these circumstances, <br /> • Invited Frank Horton to report on the USGA JuniorAmateur Golf Championship currently <br /> being held at Gold Mountain Golf Course until this Friday, <br /> • Introduced Yvonne Kraus to discuss "RePower Kitsap", a community -wide program that <br /> assists home - owners in saving energy and reducing costs, and will soon be coming to <br /> Bremerton, also, Michael Croston one of the Independent PSE- Qualified Specialists <br /> provided further details of the assessments, <br /> • Was pleased to announce WinCo Foods, a warehouse - style, low price grocery store would be <br /> locating in the new Bay Vista housing development, <br /> • Announced that the Annual West Sound Safety & Health Expo will be held at the Kitsap <br /> Conference Center and along the Boardwalk on August 10 & 11, <br /> • Introduced Dawn Nelson the City's Municipal Court Administrator, who was pleased to <br /> announce several members of the Bremerton Hurricanes Roller Hockey Club were selected to <br /> the National all -star team <br /> • Encouraged people to attend Bremerton Brewfest downtown on Saturday, <br /> • Discussed a panel that was being organized to participate in a Community Meeting scheduled <br /> on Monday, August 15 from 6 30 to 8 00 PM in the Chambers of the Norm Dicks Government <br /> Center to present the pros and cons of having a methadone clinic, and <br /> • Introduced Allysia Lynhart designer of the Freedom Heroes Flag, and Holly James <br /> explained what the flag represented For more details go to www freedom heroesflag usa com <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Carl & Sally Gliver Great American Furniture, Todd Best Real Estate Developer, Robert Parker <br /> The Printer People, Inc, Alyssa Miller Pied Piper's Emporium, Angela Perryman Claywerks, <br /> Darren Straley 76 Gas Station, Dixie Armfield- Rogerson Eastern Wind Glass / Claywerks, Justin <br /> Fell Andy Graham McCloud's Grill House, Don Stauff Boston's Deli & Pizza, Howard Froggatt <br /> Clifford's Auto Body, Michael Allen Kitsap Key & Bike Shop, Faye Flemister Unique Experience, <br /> and Brock Jackley Dave's Loans & Guns, expressed their opposition to locating a methadone clinic <br /> near Callow Avenue and the Charleston Business district due to the potentially negative impact to <br /> their neighborhood and the local businesses, and lack of City resources to address the issues that <br /> this type of clinic produces as seen in other communities like Seattle <br />
