DIGITAL RECORDING JUL 2 0 2011 <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES <br /> July 6, 2011 <br /> The weekly meeting of the City Council of the City of Bremerton was called to order in the City <br /> Council Conference Room 603, of the NORM DICKS GOVERNMENT CENTER, 345 6 th Street, <br /> Bremerton, Washington, Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at 5 00 PM, with Council President Will <br /> Maupin presiding Council Members present were Nick Wofford, Carol Arends, Dianne <br /> Robinson, Greg Wheeler, Roy Runyon, Adam Brockus, Cecil McConnell, and Jim McDonald <br /> City Attorney Roger Lubovich, City Clerk Carol Etgen, and Council Assistant Christine Grenier <br /> were present to provide staff support <br /> A COUNCIL BRIEFING was then held to discuss General Council Business at 5 00 PM in the <br /> Council Conference Room At 5 30 PM the meeting moved to the Meeting Chambers <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Council Member Jim McDonald followed by the <br /> invocation provided by Reverend David Malcom Jr. of Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal <br /> Church <br /> MAYOR'S REPORT — Mayor Lent <br /> • Presented a Mayor's Appreciation Award to Amy Burnett for her role in the <br /> Bremerton arts community for the last 20 years, <br /> • Provided Mayor's Appreciation Awards to Hank Keaton and Barbara Mascarin of <br /> American Financial Solutions for community involvement through the Washington Asset <br /> Building Coalition <br /> • Reported on the Red Cross Life Cycle event she participated in last month which raised <br /> over $5,000, <br /> • Introduced Linda Streissquth Executive Director for Puget Sound Energy (PSE), who <br /> discussed the "Re- Energize" program to help residents recycle older appliances and to <br /> improve efficient lighting, and welcomed Cathy Curry who announced the annual "Rock <br /> the Bulb" incandescent light bulb recycling event to be held next weekend at the <br /> Bremerton Good Will store, <br /> • Provided tickets to meeting attendees and Council Members for the USGA Junior <br /> Amateur Golf Championships to be held from July 18 to 23 at Gold Mountain Golf <br /> Course, and <br /> • Invited Jerry McDonald to report on "What's Happening in Bremerton" for the summer <br /> months including Music on the Boardwalk, Movies on the Roof, Summer Brewfest, <br /> Concerts in the Park, Wine Festival, Blackberry Festival, and Kitsap 9/11 Memorial <br /> Ground Breaking Ceremony <br /> PUBLIC RECOGNITION <br /> Mike Walton Kitsap Family YMCA Marketing Director, provided a list of activities taking place <br /> this month including Military Date Night, Teen Late Night, Splash & Jam, and Youth Summer <br /> Program, announced that tomorrow night will include the swimming portion of the West Sound <br /> Senior Games at the Jarstad Pool, and encouraged people to send in YMCA stories which will <br /> be shared on September 17 for the YMCA's Centennial Celebration and Community Day <br /> Raven Rayne Windermere Real Estate, invited people to attend a "Cause for Hope" event next <br /> Tuesday at 600 Park Avenue from 6 00 to 8 00 PM <br /> Colleen Smidt Naval Avenue Neighborhood Association, thanked members of the Police <br /> Department and Public Works Department for helping their neighborhood paint 3 of 4 <br /> crosswalks to make the school zone much safer for the children <br /> Russ Sargent Harborside Condominiums, discussed various properties hit by graffiti recently <br />
